KARACHI: Two back-to-back wins in a single day helped Pakistan women emerge as the winners of the 2011 Women`s T20 Quadrangular series at the Colts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Sunday.

According to the information received here, Pakistan beat Netherlands by 12 runs in a rain-affected final that saw the overs reduced to nine each.

Winning the toss, Netherlands chose to field first. Opener Nida Dar remained unlucky when she fell to E. Gerrits on the very first ball. But a 28-run partnership between Javeria Khan (14 off eight balls) and Bismah Maroof (14 off 12 balls) with the help of three fours each put Pakistan back on track. Another 14 runs by skipper Sana Mir with a five or three more from the others who couldn`t stay on the crease for very long took the women in green to 53 for seven in the nine overs. E. Gerrits took three for 13 in the two overs that she bowled.

In reply the Netherlands Women, despite having wickets in hand, could only make 41 for one in nine overs despite the 11 extras presented to them by Pakistan`s bowlers of whom only Sana Mir could take a wicket.

The same day, at the same ground and in another rain-hit match earlier, Pakistan Women beat Ireland Women by 15 runs to reach the T20 final.

Although Ireland was able to bat for the entire 20 overs after Pakistan won the toss and decided to field first, the overs had to be reduced due to the rain when it was Pakistan`s turn to bat. Ireland made 75 for seven and Pakistan were given the target of 23 runs in 7.2 overs.

The only one to show some spark in the Irish side was E.A.J. Richardson who scored a brisk 17 off 19 balls that included two fours before she fell to Bismah Maroof, caught and bowled. The other batswomen to have reached double figures in the side were opener C.M.A. Shillington (12 off 15 balls) and L. Delany (17 off 35 balls). Taking two wickets each, medium pacer Qanita Jalil and left-arm spinner Sadia Yousuf were brilliant with the leather. Wicketkeeper Batool Fatima ever alert behind the timbers also chipped in with a couple of stumpings.

Chasing the meager target, Pakistan`s openers Nida Dar (20) and Javeria Khan (15) put on a 37-run partnership (thanks to two extras) to win the match.

    Summarised scores:
    Pakistan 53-7 in 9 overs (Javeria Khan 14, Bismah Maroof 14, Sana Mir 14; E. Gerrits 3-13); Netherlands 41-1 in 9 overs (V.C.E. Wattenberg 13, M. Veringmeier 14).

    Ireland 75-7 in 20 overs (E.A.J Richardson 17, L. Delany 17, C.M.A. Shillington 12; Qanita Jalil 2-9, Sadia Yousuf 2-10); Pakistan 35-0 in 7.2 overs (Nida Dar 20, Javeria Khan 15).
