Zalmi played exceptionally well. They were still a little short in my opinion. Could have easily made 185+, but missed out after Akmal and Fletcher got out.

Karachi was always on the back foot. Let's face it. Zalmi plundered the runs. It was always a very tough ask.

Kakmal has found rhythm. This is T20. His first 3 matches were all ducks. Suddenly he found his groove and is now unstoppable. Cricket is a very unpredictable game. T20 is a fun game. A few balls can change the whole complexion of a game.

How about Zalmi vs Quetta yesterday? Zalmi had bagged it for 99% of the match. Just in the final over almost lost the match. That is T20 for you.

Islamabad vs Zalmi should be epic. It is 50/50.

Half of all PSL4 matches to be held in Pakistan: Sethi

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi on Friday said the cricketing body had gotten the go-ahead to hold half of all matches in the next Pakistan Super League (PSL) series in Karachi and Lahore.

Speaking to reporters at Karachi's National Stadium, Sethi said: "In the fourth PSL series, we want double-weekend matches," explaining that on Thursday and Friday, matches would be held in the United Arab Emirates, whereas teams would play in Pakistan on Saturday and Sunday.

He said it was not possible for Pakistan to host any more foreign teams this year after the March 25 PSL final in Karachi as all the national team's scheduled matches and series would be held abroad.

"The PSL final is happening in Karachi. After that, we have the West Indies series. After that, we have no more space. We're going abroad to play, but along with this we are trying to find a window in August or September to play five to seven matches with the West Indies and Bangladesh in Houston and Florida. But that hasn't been finalised as yet," he added.

"We are exploring [our options] but we don't have space for a foreign team to visit. There are some teams that are ready [to play in Pakistan]. I won't name them, but they have said they are ready so we will plan for next year. We want a top-level team, and not just three to four matches but a whole series."

The time is not right as yet, he said, explaining that stadiums must be prepared beforehand and nationwide security has to be top class before it can happen. He said that stadiums will also be built in Islamabad and Peshawar.

"We are hopeful there will be more PSL in Pakistan," he added.

Sethi said he was looking forward to the final. "One of the teams [Islamabad United] won the first championship, the other [Peshawar Zalmi], the second championship. Let's see who wins the third round," he said. "Whoever wins, it will ultimately be a win for Pakistan."

    KARACHI:
The excitement is reaching fever pitch as the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to finally light up Pakistan’s City of Lights.

After a painfully long gap of nine years, major cricket returns to cricket-mad Karachi as defending champions Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi battle it out for the title on March 25 at the National Stadium of Karachi.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), with the support of the Sindh Government, has decorated the city with posters of players from all six franchises and has lit up the area surrounding the stadium in order to increase the hype of the match.

The stadium’s stands, VIP enclosures, entrance, parking, ground and pitch have all been renovated or prepared for the game.

Spectators will only be allowed to park their cars at the designated spots set by Sindh Police and government, where they will undergo a physical search by the police before their tickets are scanned by the PCB staff.

After that, the PCB’s shuttle service will take spectators to the drop off point, where they will once again be scanned before they walk the final 300 meters to the stadium’s entrance. Vans will also be provided for the elderly and the disabled.

Rangers’ Brigadier Shahid revealed that neither edibles nor power banks will be allowed and that only PCB-verified food stalls will be present inside the stadium. Shahid also advised spectators that the stadium does not have a roof right now and that they should dress accordingly.

After the match, the spectators will be transported back to their respective parking areas via the shuttle service.

On match day, some roads surrounding the stadium will be closed for traffic after 11am. Tracking company TPL has launched an interactive traffic plan for PSL3 final, through which spectators can see blocked and open routes as well as all the parking areas for the match. The map can be accessed using the following...............

The decade-long cricketing drought in Karachi has understandably left its citizens thirsty for action and they can’t wait for the final.

“It is so great to see the city being lighted up like this,” said cricket fan Hassan Latif, who will be in the crowd come March 25. “We have been waiting for so long to witness something like this and we are really happy that they have done all this to turn into something so festive. Bringing the PSL and international players to Karachi is one of the highlights of this year for our country and I am happy that I bought the tickets. After seeing how the city has been decorated, I can only wonder how big the closing ceremony will be.”

Big-time cricket returns to Karachi for 1st time in 9 years

Pakistan’s biggest city will witness a high-profile cricket match for the first time in nine years on Sunday when the Pakistan Super League final is staged amid heavy security at a newly renovated National Stadium in Karachi.

More than 8,000 security personnel have been deployed for the Twenty20 final between Islamabad United and last year’s champions Peshawar Zalmi.

Karachi, now with a population of 15 million, last saw a major game with international players in February 2009 — Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan in a test match.

On the same tour, terrorists attacked the Sri Lanka team bus at Lahore. On March 3, 2009, the bus carrying the visiting cricketers, part of a large convoy, was fired upon by 12 gunmen near Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. They were on their way to play the third day of the second test against Pakistan, and six Pakistan policemen and two civilians were killed, and six members of the Sri Lanka team were injured.

That resulted in an end to international cricket in the country, and the Pakistan Cricket Board was left with no choice but to choose United Arab Emirates as its “home” turf to host international teams.

However, the PCB continued in its efforts to convince foreign nations to begin touring Pakistan. Lahore first hosted the PSL final last year, and there were Twenty20 international matches organized against a World XI (three matches) and Sri Lanka (one).

But a reluctance from some international PSL players to play in Pakistan remains. The preliminary PSL matches were played at Dubai and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates

Australian Shane Watson (Quetta Gladiators) and Englishmen Eoin Morgan (Karachi) and Kevin Pietersen (Quetta) all refused to accompany their respective franchises to Lahore earlier this week for two PSL eliminators.

The absence of the top stars hurt both franchises and drew an angry response from Gladiators coach and former Pakistan captain Moin Khan.

“We, in the coming season, should only pick players who have the consent to visit Pakistan,” Moin said after losing the first eliminator against Zalmi.

“We do not need to push for individuality as our league has now become a bigger brand ... we don’t need to get these players who don’t want to come to Pakistan. In fact, this is hurting Pakistan as it is sending a negative signal and affects our country’s image as well.”

The provincial administration in Karachi has put up in place stringent security arrangements for Sunday’s final. Spectators might have to wait in long queues hours before the evening final and will get into the stadium only after going through at least three security checkpoints.

But the city is giving a festive look to welcome foreign players like Peshawar Zalmi’s Darren Sammy of West Indies and Chris Jordan of England, and South African J.P. Duminy and New Zealand’s Luke Ronchi of Islamabad United.

Billboards and player cut-outs have been displayed on the sides of main streets to celebrate an international-standard game for the first time in nearly a decade.

Sammy has become a household name in Pakistan — especially the way he has carried Zalmi to the final after playing four successive matches with a leg injury.

“Yes Karachi we’re coming,” Sammy said in a video message. “I want you all to come and support Peshawar Zalmi. I want everybody to wear the yellow shirt, it’s a yellow storm, we’re coming.”
