KARACHI: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Sunday said that Pakistan belongs to all Pakistanis and is not the property of any particular religion or sect.

Speaking to students of the University of Gujrat earlier today, Asif said that the country belongs to all those who identify themselves as Pakistanis and stressed that every religion gives message of peace, love and harmony.

Commenting on the horrific Mardan lynching incident, the minister said that the tragic murder in the name of religion is shameful for the administration of Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan.

“The name of religion is used for settling personal scores,” he lamented, and urged the federal and provincial governments to take a stand to avoid such incidents in future.

Asif also noted that both Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah were progressive individuals.

On Saturday, Khawaja Asif in his tweets condemned the mob violence at Abdul Wali Khan University, which claimed the life of 23-year-old Mashal Khan.

Mashal Khan, a journalism student at Abdul Wali Khan University, was brutally murdered on April 13 by an angry mob which accused him of blasphemy. He was stripped, beaten, shot, and thrown from the second floor of his hostel at the university.

Following the incident, an Anti-Terrorism Court charged eight students with murder and terrorism and granted police a four-day physical remand of the suspects.

Police registered two separate cases against 20 suspects under clauses 427, 297, 302 and 148 of the Pakistan Penal Code and section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. The suspects were identified from video footage of the gruesome incident.

So far, 16 people have been arrested over the lynching and police are hunting for more suspects.

On Saturday, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar took suo moto notice of the tragedy and directed Inspector General police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Salahuddin Mehsud to present a report on the incident within the next 36 hours.

Islamic Republic doesn't means you go around on a killing spree against those who disagree with your beliefs or views.

And what ideology are you referring to? Mulla ideology, who opposed Pakistan and wanted one country known as india, or Allama Iqbal, Quaid Jinnah, Prince Aga Khan ideology, who were some top founding fathers of Pakistan and wanted a homeland of Muslims with "equal and complete rights" of non-muslims.

That is a retrospective action. Would you not consider the 'Blasphemy Law' as something akin to the Article 48 of Indian Constitution? Something that allows for varied scope in interpretation and with disastrous and tragic consequences at times?

    Not exactly

Seven more suspects arrested for murder of Mardan university student
    -
    Ali Akbar

Mardan Police on Sunday arrested seven more suspects in connection with the lynching of Mashal Khan, a 23-year-old student who was attacked by a vigilante mob after being accused of blasphemy earlier this week, police officials said.

The number of suspects arrested in connection with the tragic incident has increased to 22, police added.

Three amongst the seven suspects arrested were identified with the help of CCTV cameras, police officials said.

After being arrested, the suspects were presented before an Anti-Terrorism Court, police said. They were handed over to the police on physical remand for one day.

Earlier today, Inspector General Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Salahuddin Khan Mehsud presided over a meeting regarding the incident at the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Office in Mardan, a press release issued by the police said.

DIGP Mardan Mohammad Alam Shinwari told the meeting that investigation into the incident was progressing at a fast pace, the statement added.

The DIG briefed present officers regarding the Khan's death, police said.

"Several of the nominated suspects have been arrested," the statement quoted the DIG as saying.

The IGP Mehsud appreciated the performance of the police, and said that the investigation is moving in the right direction, the statement read.

He advised the police to arrest the remaining suspects and proceed with the investigation with transparency and neutrality, according to the press release.

The meeting was attended by District Police Officer Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed, SP investigation and officials of the CTD.

There is a complete misuse of Blasphemy Law in Pakistan. Plus blasphemy law is there to protect every religion's view not just Islam. In short it is mullas in groups such as lej, Lal mosque, ttp, etc who have injected nonsense into a common men of Pakistan which is why this law has become disastrous.

Pakistan founded by sacrificing thousands millions on the name of Allah, sacrifice since the arrival of disguised east India company.

No other religion sacrificed for Pakistan at all, its very hard fact.

Ok....Yes. Islam gives basic rights to every one....

What ever you do you can't change the original
Pakistan ka matlib kya LAILLAHA ILALLAH

By an ill occasion you can't change the basic ideology of dozens of millions.

I didn't know why these liberals are blind to what's happening with muslims in kashmir in whole india, in europe in usa

Who is permitting the very basic rights to true practicing muslims? Only highlight very a few occasions in Pakistan and engulf thousands happening against Muslims even minor children. What is this attitude?

did i said anything which triggered you? Did i said Islamic republic means killing spree? Did i talked about progressive and conservative, did i said ban other religions and they should not have any freedom, If not then save your blabbering for someone else.

As for Ideology, Only country in the world based on Islam and not ethno nationalism.

constitution says Islam is state religion.

So he is wrong if he said state has no religion, he should be asked to correct himself in parliament..

It is not what you want, it is what the founding fathers of Pakistan wanted, thankfully the majority of Pakistanis still value the message of founding fathers. Infact mullas opposed the creation of Pakistan.

You asked a question on an open forum, I was not aware that you only wanted answers that could provide soothing orgasms to your brain. Sorry for that.
