LAHORE: The Pakistan Rangers today handed over 78 Indian prisoners, mostly fishermen, to the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Wagah Border after they were released from a jail in Karachi.

A Rangers' official told PTI that 77 Indian fishermen and one other Indian prisoner were handed over to the BSF after verification of their immigration papers.

Indian prisoners were handed over after a parade that concluded at dawn, the official said.

The Indian fishermen, who were released from Karachi's Landhi jail, yesterday were brought here by a train this afternoon.

"We received the fishermen at the Lahore railways station and brought them to Edhi Foundation and served them food. We have also presented them with a pair of shalwar kameez and Rs. 5,000 as gift," Edhi Foundation spokesman Younis Bhatti said.

He said the fishermen were later transported to the Wagah border by bus.

Most of the fishermen handed over to the BSF had completed their sentences at the Landhi jail. They had been held for crossing into Pakistani waters inadvertently.

About 298 Indian fishermen are still languishing in the Sindh province of Pakistan, media reports said.

Indian fishermen often languish in jail in Sindh even after serving their terms because of bureaucratic hurdles.

They're the guys Pakistan has let go while hundreds of Pakistani fishermen, much like these guys, are still in Indian jails due to political pressure for the PM to "act tough".

Kulbashan Yadav intelligence suggests India is using its fishermen to infiltrate RAW agents and their terrorists through Pakistan seas near Gwadar port.

India has also started aerial service to transfer weapons to terrorists via Afghanistan.

Yes and u know by default that Pakistan is responsible bcuz India is totally crime free and all its citizens r super happy(Kashmiris/Naxalites/etc)...and it's not like there's any communal tensions that might lead to the killings like that.

Well Mr. Holmes could u please let us in on this amazing proof that u have found of Pakistan's involvement that even ur own investigative agencies haven't found yet?

I thought terrorists in Pakistan are already equipped with weapons since ages? I think something is wrong in your analysis....

You agree that some part of Indian establishment is responsible for the deaths of civilians in Pakistan "for revenge" or not.

Such a beta move on our part. We should keep these fisherman until Hindustan behaves, there's nothing I hate more than these weak and fruitless goodwill gestures.

Forget about goodwill or looking weak for a moment and think about these poor fishermen. These guys r probably the sole breadwinners for their poor families. They don't have enough money/power/influence to afford lawyers and court case expenses. Their only crime was that they were found on our side of the water...so we should punish these poor fishermen bcuz their government is being a d*ck?

I personally think both sides should let go of these fishermen after investigating...and maybe find a way to prevent their inadvertent crossing in the first place.
