Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday reiterated that China had offered its complete support to Pakistan in approaching the United Nations Security Council with a motion to condemn India's move of scrapping Kashmir's special status.

"I shared with China that we intend on taking this matter to the United Nations Security Council. I want to tell the nation that they [Chinese leadership] have assured us of their complete support. Not only that, they have also issued instructions to their New York representative to remain in contact with our representative and to keep their consultations ongoing."

His remarks came during a press conference held in Islamabad, a day after his rushed visit to Beijing, where he took into confidence his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi over Pakistan's concerns.

Qureshi said that foreign ministries of both the countries have named a focal person each at the director general level who will be responsible for coordinating "a joint strategy".

He said that the applicable resolutions of the Security Council number eleven, of which, three mention the legal status of Jammu and Kashmir.

China has taken a position whereby it views Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed region, said the foreign minister, adding,"They are of the view that the solution to the dispute lies within the United Nations resolution."

A report by Reuters quoted Qureshi as saying that he planned to approach Indonesia and Poland — both non-permanent members of the 15-strong Security Council — as well, for their support.

Qureshi said that China viewed India's actions in occupied Kashmir to be "unilateral". He warned of a negative side to these actions in the form of an "enhanced threat" to peace and security in the region.

"Another worrying aspect is the further violation of human rights which was always a threat," he said. Referring to yesterday's easing of curfew restrictions and the resultant "spontaneous protest" that broke out, he said security forces were forced to make use of pellet guns to contain it.

"They were forced to crush them, to wound them," he said, adding that there were reports of deaths.

The foreign minister went on to describe how Kashmiris living abroad had been completely cut off from their loved ones in the wake of an unprecedented lockdown in the region by Indian security forces.

He said some reports of curfew violations had surfaced from Soora in Srinagar yesterday and in Ladakh today, but that details were sketchy owing to a clampdown on communications. "We cannot say for sure what the outcome of quashing such violations was. Were there deaths? Injuries? The fear is on the rise."

He said the curfew has entered its sixth day and there are worrying reports of food shortages and moreover, a shortage of medicines.

"All the while, India is giving the world the impression that there is nothing to worry and that this is an internal matter," he said.

The foreign minister, during an interactive session with the media at the end of his conference, asserted that Pakistan does not wish to seek a military solution to the issue.

"We think of it as an ignorant, foolish and suicidal move. This is not our path," he said.

"However, if someone mounts an attack on us [...] we did not use aggression, we defended ourselves on February 27 and we reserve the right of defence," the foreign minister added.

What kind of a sick joke is this?????

Foreign minister has done enough damage. Fawad or Sheikh Rasheed would be hundred times better as foreign minister than this Jaali peer of Multan.

ISLAMABAD: China on Friday threw its weight behind Pakistan in the wake of India’s illegal annexation of Kashmir, saying the longstanding dispute must be resolved “properly and peacefully” based on the UN Charter, relevant Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreement.

More importantly, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who held over two-and-half-hour long meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, said Beijing would support Pakistan in the UN Security Council over its Kashmir row with India.

Qureshi dashed to China as part of diplomatic initiative by Pakistan to seek support of Beijing in view of the brewing row over Kashmir. The controversy has been triggered by India’s unilateral action earlier this week to do away the special status of disputed Jammu and Kashmir region.

The move drew a strong condemnation from Pakistan, which in response downgraded diplomatic ties and suspended bilateral trade with India.

An official statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Office said Foreign Minister Wang noted that Beijing was seriously concerned about the latest escalation of tensions in Kashmir. He also warned against “unilateral actions” on the issue.

“The Kashmir issue is a dispute left from the colonial history. It should be properly and peacefully resolved based on the UN Charter, relevant UN Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreement,” Wang was quoted as saying. “China believes that unilateral actions that will complicate the situation should not be taken.”

This is the first time China took a clearer stance on India’s Kashmir move. Earlier, Beijing statement was only referred to its dispute with India in the Ladakh region.

Foreign Minister Qureshi said he thanked his Chinese counterpart for a meeting on a short notice. Qureshi briefed the Chinese side on Pakistan’s observations, position and measures in response to the latest development of the situation in Kashmir.

Qureshi said that China is Pakistan’s friend that has long been trusted, and that friendship between Pakistan and China is rock solid. He believed that China would stand up for justice on the Kashmir issue.

She would have been the best choice since she also have remained as the head of The Institute of Strategic Studies in the past. But unfortunately her daughter is a khooni liberal who barks against Pakistan, Islam and Pakistan army so she couldn't be given posts of Defense or Foreign ministry.

May Allah have mercy on us. They are still deluding themselves and people that world care about bharati move in Kashmir. They don't care and they won't care if you don't show intent to going for any length.

I am hundred percent sure this SMQ is a compromised person. He was involved in Kerry Luger Bill as well which was rejected by Pak Army and it was later found out that he was fully involved in that bill as well and later he was fired from his job as foreign minister due to differences developed with Army.

Now recently when India had moved massive military in Kashmir and even here on pdf we were discussing that India might revoke Kashmir autonomy, our foreign ministry had no clue what was going on. Instead this joker had went for Hajj.

Now he is doing more BS.

poor typical pakistani defensive mentality. he shouldn't have given this statement.
we know the worth of our leaders. at max few slogans, few condemnations and at best a UN resolution and typical statment "hamari aman ki koshish ko kamzori na samjha jay" nothing more was expected out of pakistan but at least let your enemy keep on guessing.
