TEHRAN (FNA)- Islamabad is eyeing the help and cooperation of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in restoring rail network among Islamabad, Tehran, Istanbul and central Asian countries.
Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad told ECO Secretary General Hadi Soleimanpour on Wednesday that his country is giving priority to foreign investment and sought the cooperation of ECO in restoring rail network among Islamabad, Tehran, Istanbul and central Asian countries.

He made the remark in a Wednesday meeting with ECO Secretary General Hadi Soleimanpour, who agreed to enhance coordination between three counties in this respect.

During the meeting, Sheikh Rasheed briefed Soleimanpour on the ongoing mega railroad projects, including ML-2 and ML-3, as well as upgrading Quetta-Taftan railway track.

Soleimanpour, for his part, agreed to enhance coordination between Tehran, Ankara and Islamabad for the railway connection, and said Pakistan is an important member of ECO and its role for the development and prosperity of the region is commendable.

He highlighted that services of the ECO Trade and Development Bank could be utilized for financial partnership by its member countries.

“ECO development bank could be beneficial for financial partnership,” he added.

ECO Secretary General is visiting Pakistan on March 12-15, 2019. This is his first visit to Pakistan since he assumed office as the Secretary General of the Organization.

Earleir in mid-November, Rasheed Ahmad had again called for constructing a railway link between Iran and Pakistan through the Quetta-Taftan section as an imperative for expanding bilateral ties.

The Pakistani minister made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost, who was invited to Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad's office in Islamabad.

Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad added that upgrading Quetta-Taftan railway would further enhance Pakistan-Iran relations. Iranian Ambassador also stressed upon importance of Quetta-Taftan section.

Both sides during the meeting agreed on mutual cooperation in Railways. It was also decided to constitute a technical committee of the two countries to resolve issues pertaining to railways.

Senior officials of Pakistan railways were also present in the meeting.

Quetta-Taftan Railway route is one of four main railway routes in Pakistan, operated and maintained by Pakistan Railways. The line begins from Quetta station and ends at Koh-e-Taftan station.

The total length of this railway line is 325 kilometers. There are 23 railway stations from Quetta to Koh-e-Taftan. The line then crosses into Iran and extends to Zahedan.

Earlier the government of Pakistan had invited Iranian companies to invest in country’s railway industry to improve rail systems of Pakistan.

First build the fence on border, terror movement is real threat to trade and movement of people. First build proper borders then trade.

So asking for "Investment and Cooperation" is "Asking for help"? Then every country in the world is "asking for help".

What is wrong with you Iranians, seriously? Do you have some kind of complex that you and your media has to spin everything to get some sort of feelings that you are "superior to Pakistanis"? You are not in a kindergarten here.

I mean why cant you for once report the facts as they are without adding unnecessary dramatics to it?

I think it's a very good idea. We need much increased people to people contact and increased trade and cultural exchange to reduce negative stereotypes amongst our communities.

Dude Azerbaijan has invested 5 bn$ in Iran's railways after our minister asked them. Asking for help from your neighbor has no shame

Mutual cooperation and investment is always welcome everywhere. But headlining and portraying it as if one country is dependent on the other and begging for help is simply not correct. This is what my objection to the Farsnews heading is.

The very reason, why Ale-Saud and Ale-Nahyan/Zayed can hire mercenaries from Balochistan to conduct US desired terror attacks in the name of their fake religion, is poverty in that area. The poverty that has been a direct result of terrorism led by US pawns in our region. It must end, and the inhabitants of Balochistan should taste benefits of a safe/prosperous land.
Take out your sectarian glasses friend, you can see without our help, Pakistan should build a railway through the sea and oceans to reach Turkey. You got the point wrongly, read again

    What sectarian glasses?

I am always for cooperation among all neighboring countries.

And we had great relationships with Iran during Shah time (RCD), only since Mullahs have overtaken Iran, the relationships have nose-dived. But still, I consider it important for having good relations with every country. Even with India.

I agree, but what if we all invest in infrastructure and an incident take place and you Generals start barking against Pakistan as usual and close down trains. so its better for both to first secure the border area, build proper border infrastructure (Fence/Wall) then invest on the connectivity, poverty reduction, job creations, industrial activities etc CPEC will be all over Baluchistan.

Bruh, you are just misinformed. Our general warned Pakistan that some elements are trying to split Pakistan. He didn't threaten your nation.

Interconnectivity of trade routes is in the best interest of all the regional countries provided that some are willing to put down their expansionist agenda and play ball.
