Pakistan Armed forces need restructuring , four four star generals should be given the command of North South and East and West Boarders , they should report to General Chief of Army Staff . The position of COAS is no more required . It will eliminate the danger of martial Law in country . Pakistan suffered lot of economical losses in 35 years of martial law rule. The armed forces should be reduced to 150000 to 250000 regular army . All adult citizen of Pakistan male and female should be trained and they should serve the defence forces for 40 days per year. The 75% armed budget can be utilized in high tech weapons and space satellites, research and development , development of 5th generation fighter planes ,missile defence systems and drones technology.

    Please give your suggestions!.

    Thanks,

Suggestion is good but it will never be implemented and opposed by army.I think more power should be gi vven to chairman joint chief of staff and army chief power should be reduced like in u.s army it will reduce risk of military takeover we should follow u.s army structure

the army will adapt accordingly with modern times and needs as it inducts new technology.
reducing numbers and breaking commands wont reduce risk of military take over
just breaking it into parts for the sake of avoiding coups is a false precaution which will be detrimental to its capability

but chance of thinking of both the politicians and military leadership will help

Divide and Rule , eh ? :-) Good tactic to disintegrate PA and make it ineffective.

What if these 4 star generals have a disagreement ?so who would the 4 star generals report to ? PM ? PM isn't a military person. There is a reason every department has one head, who is responsible and answerable for that department.

No, inducting different commands of armies will increase the risk of take over...

    You are right.
His suggestion kills the "Leadership" factor, on which the whole concept of Military is based on.

“Strong military” is a pretty subjective concept, and it’s a relative one. Military strength isn’t usually considered in a vacuum, and the purpose of having a given level of military strength isn’t just for its own sake - it matters what other military force or forces you’re comparing yourself to.and since our inception in world map we have natural strong enemy on the other side(India) not by choice . So this make us strong military for survival otherwise without strong military we become Syria, Libya or Iraq .
I support my army and their leadership.pakistan army zindabad ISI zindabad

Before giving military training to civilian (which I think isn’t bad thing but knowing fractures/faults lines in Pakistani society and our emotional jazba, we should not go in it for the moment).

But restructuring army by suppressing its head will make our army like Arabs armies attacking Israel. I mean no coordination, everyone want be or want not to be etc... and imagine Zardari or nawaz again Prime ministering... it will be death for us.

An army should be like a unique body
Moving with coordination in order to protect our country.

I’m not expert so my humble point of view could be wrong of course

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. No major changes to military command structure is needed. I do think the National Security Council needs changes. Economic development should be included in its mandate, as its our major security concern. I have mentioned in other posts.... I think key economic decisions should be removed from the hands of the political establishment. Just like key military decisions are made generals that are experts in that field and don't change when PM's change, so too should key decisions in agriculture, water, energy, industry/mining, trade, and finance be made by a council of vetted experts on fixed terms, irrespective of who is prime minister. It would be a more stable, politically insulated Economic Coordination Committee that would be part National Security Council with the armed forces.

Depending on economic conditions, I think conscription should be on the table. It doesn't have to be a full conscription. It could be a lottery for up to 1 Million young men. Only the best would be considered for combat. The rest can be sent to the army engineering corp to work on enhancing our energy/water infrastructure.

The most powerful military's in history were conscript forces. We don't have to jump to nukes right a away. With additional light infantry we can consider a conventional assault to liberate Kashmir as well as secure our borders in the south. With the added security we can launch crushing counter strikes against economic targets in India....energy, transport, and communications infrastructure...using missiles drones or manned aircraft. Lets see the much lauded economy function without electricity, petrol, or communications....they will have a negative 25% GDP growth rate should they consider any major misadventure. If we cant stop them, only then the nukes fly.

How do you intend to Cover East, West and North with 150k?
Our enemy is 3 times bigger now, it will be 10 times bigger then..

    Fellow PDFers
    I have two questions

1)Why is CJCOSC always from the army???
2)Is there a JSOC like org in Pakistan armed forces where all the Special Groups of tri-services can sit together and plan together. And combine/share their intel sources, manpower, resources etc???

Defence experts and many ex-servicemen have also proposed transformation of the Armed forces. The 21st century requires a Military which is divided into commands. All the commands report to the Prime Minister, basically we are taking example out of US Military. The Military needs to adapt to the changing times soon, these restructuring have been ignored for decades but WoT should be enough of a lesson for us.

It doesn't just reduces the chances of a coup but will also enhance the capabilities of our armed forces.
