Pakistan Air Force has raised a new squadron No. 50 ‘Saf Shikan

The Pakistan Air Force has raised a new squadron, namely No. 50 ‘Saf Shikan’ tactical attack squadron, and allocated all Mirages in the No. 15 ‘Cobras’ squadron to this new squadron.

The now empty No. 15 multirole squadron is expected to receive J-10C fighters in first quarter 2022.

Why do you need fighter jets for that job? Ballistic missiles and Cruise missiles can do that at a price much cheaper.

Nope bro!. Using fighter jets is cheaper for this role. Fighter jet is re-usable. Using fighter jet with laser guided munition is way cheaper then land based SSMs.

The cruise missiles / ballistic missiles are very expensive and they travel 100s of kms for 1-way trip. BTW! ballistic missiles are only majorly for WMDs / strategic value, (if you are thinking about shaheen, ghauris etc. ).

However, more then a cost, its a question of strategy, distances and risk calculation. For-example, If target is heavily defended by air-patrols then using cruise missiles is more appropriate.

The induction of SOWs like H4s, Raads gave Mirages a perfect role. With the slow production of JF-17s, it will take quite some time before mirages can be phased-out.

Yep, That's true for ballistic missiles, which goes at extreme heights, makes a parabola then re-entry. They are used for strategic / WMD purposes. The likes of shaheens, ghauris etc.

However, in the next major war the cruise missiles will be used both air-launched and ground based. That is what they are for. Taking out high value targets like air-bases, naval bases, C&C centers, communications facilities etc.

Using cruise missiles or a fighter jets for a specific target depends upon various parameters like where the target is, how much defended it is, what is the risk assessment, what is the available strength of fighters / or cruise missiles available, etc.

I wish people would wait for official bodies to break such news themselves .. many users here and especially on Facebook want to get credit to leak such stuff.

The patch isn't even official yet, it's a proposed design and I don't know who leaked this ( yeah yeah it's just a patch no big deal ) the designer himself or his printer but imo this trend needs to stop, including posting here before confirmation from official sources.

And please don't argue with * we are military enthusiasts so we have every right to leak and post stuff *

No body is going to make that argument. On the contrary I know these guys. They don't share stuff on social media without getting permission. They first get permission only then they share it on social media.

"Tactical" means it'd be for ground attack role and interdiction according to PA's requirements. Like the sabres were used on the Lahore and other fronts? I mean for striking operationally vital obj such as bridges, railway junctions, supply columns and ground attack.
