“Four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, including an officer, were killed and three others injured in unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers along the International Border (IB) in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior BSF officer said on Wednesday.

“Pakistan Rangers initiated cross border firing along IB in Ramgarh sector last night. We have lost four of our personnel, including an assistant commandant rank officer, while other 3 of our personnel suffered injuries,” IG, BSF (Jammu Frontier) Ram Awtar told PTI.”

Obviously the Indians are going to claim it was ‘unprovoked firing by the Rangers’ but the DG ISPR made clear in his recent presser that Pakistani forces would only respond if the Indian side fired first.

    Story Highlights
    • Major ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmi's Samba
    • Four BSF personnel dead in firing by Pakistan overnight
    • Frequency of firing along International Border and LoC increased in 2018
Jammu: Four personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) have died in Pakistani firing in Chambliyal sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district. One among the four is BSF assistant commandant.

The major ceasefire violation by Pakistan comes nearly a week after top level military officers of both countries agreed to implement the ceasefire pact of 2003 in "letter and spirit".

"Pakistan Rangers initiated cross border firing along the International Border in Ramgarh last night. We have lost four of our personnel, including an assistant commandant rank officer, while other 3 of our personnel suffered injuries," Inspector General, BSF, Ram Awtar told news agency PTI. The police chief of Jammu and Kashmir, SP Vaid, in a tweet expressed his condolences.
The firing from across the border in Chamliyal sector started around 10.30 pm on Tuesday and continued overnight, till around 4.30 am today, said police sources. The BSF troops also fired in retaliation, the official said.

Even as the Indian forces are maintaining a ceasefire against terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir and border truce with Pakistan, there have have been over 1,000 violations from the Pakistani side in 2018 alone, the government said.

"We have maintained that the ceasefire violation by Pakistan is used as a cover to infiltrate terrorists into our territory and we have seen the results of such infiltrations in the past. We hope that Pakistan will realise what it is doing and adheres to the 2003 ceasefire agreement between the two countries in this matter," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said on June 7.

On June 2, two BSF personnel, including an officer, died after Pakistani troops targeted Indian posts along the International Border in Jammu. The heavy firing and mortar shelling from across the border in Pragwal area of Akhnoor and nearby Kanachak and Khour sectors also injured 10 persons, including a policeman and a woman. Border residents were forced to abandon their homes and move to safer places.

Both sides are going to say that they are just "responding" the fire. Nothing new here.

The question is why anyone should start firing in the first place? What are the benefits "to any side" for starting the fire. My take is, Pakistan is trying to give cover to infiltrators (open to debate). It's something Pakistan has done it in the past. There is a history of giving "moral and political support" by Pakistan to you know who. Now you do the math.

    RIP.

I’m confused over some of the details mentioned by the IG BSF.
    1. Isn’t the correct term ‘Line of control’ rather than ‘International Border’ in J&K, given that it is disputed territory?

    2. I thought the LoC was manned by the Indian Army and not the BSF - the latter mans the International border which in turn is manned by the Rangers on the Pakistan side.

As we speak I am debating with Indians as they always are acting angels. Although I am telling is it India which runs away cowardly when ever we suggest that UN observers should be deployed on LOC and working boundary

Really ???????? Than ask your genius Government why they run away when we suggest that let us deploy UN Observers on both side of LOC and Working Boundary they would tell who opens fire

That sounds like a good reason for Pak to start firing at the border. This way they expect India to call UN observers in Kashmir but that's never gonna happen. I can assure you that.

For TTP, I thought your Army's 'Zarb E Azb" had already finished them off? But my bad, so it turns out that Pak Army haven't been able to do that either. Otherwise why else you would think that India is firing at the border to give a breather to TTP !

For Nawaz, are you seriously telling me that we fire at the border to save Nawaz?? I mean.. how stupid is that !

But if you really want to think about it neutrally, then you would know that Pakistan has interests in firing at the Indian border i.e. infiltration of "freedom fighters". Anyone who is familiar with Kashmir dispute knows about it. If you don't know it then you simply are not familiar with it.

India - on the other hand - do not have such interests. You are free to disagree though.
