‘He was running with a Sikh holy book’: The ‘crime’ for which Sikh man was lynched & hacked
A Dalit Sikh identified as Lakhbir Singh was killed — his hand chopped off at the wrist, his ankle hacked at ankle — at Singhu border Friday for alleged sacrilege.

Sonepat: What exactly happened in the early hours of Friday near the main stage of the farmers protest at Singhu border wasn’t clear by evening.

What is known — through people present at the site and purported videos from the scene — is that a man had his hand chopped off at the wrist and his foot hacked at the ankle, besides being assaulted, allegedly by members of the Nihang sect. His body was subsequently hanged from a police barricade and the grisly visual soon went viral.

Speaking to ThePrint, several Nihang Sikhs present at the site claimed that Lakhbir Singh, identified as a Dalit Sikh and father-of-three, had committed sacrilege with a holy book, the Sarbloh Granth, that he allegedly picked up and sought to run away with.

However, questions about the nature of desecration evoked multiple accounts from people at the Delhi-Haryana border, where farmers have been gathered for nearly a year in protest against the Modi government’s three new farm laws.

Even the Nihang Sikhs who claimed responsibility for the killing didn’t have one answer. Some said Lakhbir Singh tore the Sarbloh Granth, or threw it in the dustbin, while others claimed he was about to burn the holy book. Most described Singh as an agent of the Haryana government.

As of Friday evening, police said one person — identified as Sarabjit Singh, a Nihang — had been detained in connection with the killing.

Earlier, the Sonepat Deputy Superintendent of Police said they were informed “around 5 am that a man has been killed near the Singhu border”. “A murder case has been lodged at the Kundli police station. Investigation is on,” the officer added.

Sources in police said Lakhbir Singh has no criminal record.

Lakhbir’s family described him as mentally challenged, adding that he and his wife got divorced a few months ago. He was adopted by his uncle Harnam Singh after he lost his parents as a six-month-old, and is survived by his daughters, said Sukhman Singh, a relative.

“The Guru Granth Sahib is above everything else. What will anyone do if their parents are attacked? Will you watch and wait for police or take action? When someone attacks our holy book, it is our right to defend and protect,” said Jathedar Raja Raj Singh.

“This man attempted to sacrilege our God. If anyone else does it, we will do the same thing again. We are not scared of the law. He touched and desecrated our Guru.”

Singh alleged a “BJP-RSS-CM Khattar” conspiracy in the incident. “They conspired to blame the movement, which is why they sent him. We have evidence, he was paid Rs 30,000 to desecrate our holy book.”

I have videos of this incident. Indian Hindutavis were furious on this but would have been very happy if the roles were reversed.

I gave you an example. In most of the cases religion or cast comes later. The actual incident would have started for something else. I am not justifying any of it by any means,
Nice that you are not justifying the incidents but we must realize that most of them are based on religion or caste. Some even sparked by rumors like about the Kashmiri students who were supposedly overheard cheering for Pakistani cricket team, not that it is wrong to cheer for them, though I am not a follower of cricket but I will not do so because of the current situation.

So whose thoughts do you care about ? How did you care about the thoughts of your parents, teachers and community elders ?

Why are you on the internet ?

"Nobody" does not mean the entire humanity.

Lies ! And tell those lies to the ghost of the Dalit Ambedkar who was fed up of the oppressive environment maintained by the Upper Castes and maintained by the Hindutvadis and thus he in 1956 converted to Buddhism in a public ceremony along with 500,000 of his followers. Tell those lies to the ghosts of the Dalit students Rohith Vemula and Dr. Payal Tadvi who committed suicide in 2016 because of being oppressed by Upper Caste university officials and in case of Payal, by Upper Caste student colleagues and in case of Rohith by Upper Caste government officials. Tell those lies to Dalit youth leader Chandrashekhar Azad who formed the Bhim Army during his college days because his community students were being oppressed by Upper Castes in college. Tell those lies to Dalit youth leader Jignesh Mevani who so recently joined the Congress party instead of the many Hindutvadi groups.

How ? I expressed my sadness for this murder and then countered your unthinking and one-sided post by speaking of a similar murder which required your equal condemnation.

LOL. Is that why Delhi Police built a wall of shipping containers to surround the Red Fort's entrance so that on the 15th August the protesting farmers won't be able to enter the fort and disrupt Modi's 15th August speech ?

You want me to post pictures of the real goons ?

National security as decided by who ? :)

That is controlled opposition. In 2011 the American government and its pliant mainstream media tried to spread disinfo about the Occupy Wall Street movement by claiming that it was being supplied with resources by the Russian and Chinese embassies. Maybe the American intelligence even infiltrate the movement.

Thief ? From Kashmiri Muslim students to a Muslim bangle seller to a Muslim beggar family to Dalit disposers of cattle hide... were these all thieves ?
National security in America tends to be bipartisan. Americans in general do not like anarchism or communism. American communist party probably doesn't get 100,000 votes.

You think you won't find Muslims supporting Pakistan, in a India Pakistan match . If you don't think so then you live in delusion. Though the percentage of such Muslims is less but you do have such Indians among us. There is nothing wrong in supporting Pakistan but when its India and Pakistan match ,then you know where you loyalties are.

Americans in general do not like anarchism or communism.
But why not Communism ? I watched an interview of the comrades of the young Pakistani leftist Arooj Aurangzeb and one of them spoke about the American adoption of the red flag of Communism and in particular workers' rights. He spoke of 1886 May 1st when some workers were agitating in Chicago for eight-hour work days instead of longer hours and the police arrived and began firing which led to the death of four workers and injuring many more. The comrade spoke of the workers' blood flowing and mixing with the rain and this event leading to the contribution of the adoption of the red flag by Communist movements everywhere. That particular agitation in Chicago over a 100 years ago is why corporate and factory American workers now have five-day eight-hour work days.

American communist party probably doesn't get 100,000 votes.
Votes should not decide which movement we should support or not. The modern British system of political parties ( whether one or two or many ), five-yearly election and voting and a complicated political structure is not a democratic one. If some party or candidate gets majority vote then what about those who voted for the minority-vote candidate or party ? Aren't their sentiments being overlooked ? Isn't this a dictatorship of the majority ? Is it necessary for the majority-voting public to be in the right ?

The simplest and the real democratic political system is one of no parities and no five-yearly elections. If the people have to gather to decide it should be directly on issues and not on parties. Direct democracy though of course the people should be guided by enlightened people. Such a system existed in Libya until 2011 and was called Jamahiriya. It has been adapted in Venezuela. Even Elon Musk wants direct democracy for the near-future Mars settlements. Please go through this thread where I describe the technical elements of the system.

There is nothing wrong in supporting Pakistan

but when its India and Pakistan match ,then you know where you loyalties are.
In that case Indians and Pakistanis should stop being opponents of each other. In the below thread I propose a near-term solution for this :

These lynchings have been happening for a long time ,but now it's being given a religious color, In India every second person is a dalit or a minority. Add the Dalit to Hindu numbers when needed and, if a dalit is at a receiving end make it sensational.
I agree there are cases where we have true haters of Muslim. When a thief is caught snaching a chain he is handled the same way as rest of the subcontinent, if the theaf is a Muslim then make it religious and if it's dalit make it oppressed dalits and you have a eye catching headline.
I have seen how the public treats someone who has been caught in the act.Trust me no one is looking into his religion or caste at that time ,those are added up after the incident.
We need to establish that lynching is bad irrespective of caste, creed or religion of the victim. The suspicion on religious basis is not always propaganda because historically minorities have been persecuted in south asia. I agree that a true news should be shared with public with responsibility and with facts so no harm comes to other people.

Of course anyone taking law into their hands is wrong.

I 100% agree with you there. There is a beast in South Asia that has not been tamed. As you said after the beast strikes just tag it as Dalit, Muslim, Christian, Ahmedi, other minority.

Nihang Sikhs who did this act are themself from dalit community.

By the way I don't condone this crime, murder is heinous crime and law must take its course!

A clear case of conspiracy against farmers movement against Modi Govt.
which part, the desecration or the murder?
nice now these farmers will have even less support
farmers did not do it, nihangs did
nihang are soldiers/defenders of hindus (army of the immortal started by hargobind a sikh guru)

Dalit man was butchered alive by so called "Farmers"
nihang not farmers, they were mercenary type killers you hired in the past to kill Muslims and to protect hindus.
