The parties discussed situation in Ukraine and agreed on key aspects of further cooperation.

“The situation in the east of Ukraine as well as in annexed Crimea makes us develop and reform our army. In the past 2.5 years we have gained a valuable experience and are ready to share it,” General Poltorak stressed.

According to the Minister of Defence, the scope of cooperation between Ukraine and the United Arabic Emirates includes experience sharing, joint officers training, data exchange, and military medical cooperation (particularly, treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers both in Ukraine and the UAE).

Chief of Staff of UAE Armed Forces remarked that their country was rather young but it had gained its capabilities in a rapid manner. Meanwhile, they also faced a serious threat as terrorism.

“Hence, our military strategy was based on formation of small, motivated and well-equipped army which would be well-integrated to the society. These forces should be supported by reservists. Our main goal is to prevent the war,” Chief of Staff of UAE Armed Forces Lt. General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi underscored.

The Minister of Defence of Ukraine agreed that the strong army acted as a guarantor of the territorial integrity of any state.

The representatives of the General Staff of the UAE Armed Forces took also interest in the Ukrainian tactical medicine experience.

Ukraine received a proposal to participate in exercise to be soon conducted in the United Arabic Emirates.

The parties showed interest in defence industry cooperation as well and thanked each other for openness and agreed on development of further cooperation.

“We have a lot of defence cooperation agreements between our countries. The scope of experience sharing is not exhausted. I invite you to visit Ukraine to hold discussions and thank you for this constructive and open meeting,” General Poltorak said.
