I am from Zhengzhou. After two days without the Internet, I was finally able to get online. To be honest, I only found out about the disaster through the news.

That morning my wife's colleague said it was raining too hard and the police were blocking some roads. We decided to stay at home.I played PUBG all day. It was in the evening that I heard of the flooding in the city. By the next day, the water and the Internet were cut off. There was no problem with drinking water, but there was a lack of water for bathing and flushing toilets. On the third day, a brief hour of tap water came at noon.Internet is back up in some areas, but not near our home.Only China Telecom had no signal.

We live in the west of Zhengzhou. The topography of Zhengzhou is high in the northwest and low in the southeast. So there wasn't any flood near my house, but some villages in the south were badly hit, underground buildings in the city were badly hit, and others were fine. Today, we are completely normal here.

Glad to hear you & your family is safe  All the best from Indonesia

This is actually a terrible approach. With higher price, the hotel would be more willing to pack more people in a room. If you force them to ask for regular prices, they would be more likely to enforce regular occupancy. Why allowing more people in to cause more maintenance cost to you when you cannot charge more? In addition, with regular prices, some richer people can afford renting up a few rooms for the comfort of their families, leaving other people having fewer rooms. With higher prices, they would scale back and rent fewer rooms, thus leaving more rooms for other people. In the end, people (both clients and hotel owners) lose, only politicians win.

I have no idea whether you theory is correct or not. Like all theory it might not work so well in real life. I guess one can look at similar incident in other country that do not have that policy and how did it turn out. Would it be like you conjecture, both clients and owner win?

Anyway, netizen make that hotel notorious, and the people demand action to be taken, so Chinese gov't carries out what the people demand.

By the way, there are report from the net that many hotels have lower price, I have no idea if it is true or not because there are others that say the opposite.

Use your common sense and think what you would do if you were the hotel owner. And, if you were a potential client, what would you prefer? A higher price for a room or no room available? Disaster inevitably causes resource scarcity. Expecting life as usual is not only unrealistic but outright arrogant.

I do not know, maybe in a disaster, some might not mind so much to have compassion to help out a fellow neighbor a little bit.

Since you like to think in term of benefit, think of it like paying insurance premium, because maybe some day you would be the one that is in trouble, and needs other to help you out a bit.

Relying on somebody's compassion is a far more risky solution than relying on his self interest. In a natural disaster, the last thing you want is to have more risks. You have enough to deal with already.

What the Chinese people ask is not compassion, what they ask is for businesses not to take advantage of others misfortune.

Zhengzhou was hit by heavy rains. We can see through the video that the whole city of Zhengzhou was hit by heavy rains. All the floods were received. The cars were floating, and there were people who had no place to live. At this time, we heard the news that all hotels in Zhengzhou had all reduced prices. How much did it cost? Let's take a look together next.

According to the latest news, the heavy rains in Zhengzhou have left many people homeless and many hotels have cut prices at the same time. Some youth hostels only cost 6 yuan, and some hotels even provide accommodation for free. Disasters are merciless, but the Chinese people are friendly, mutually helpful, and united in the face of disasters.

Not only did the hotel cut prices spontaneously, several major platforms also officially announced that if you book a Zhengzhou hotel through the platform, you can apply for a free refund or change your booking. The loss caused by the hotel's retreat will be borne by the platform. In addition, some public facilities and enterprises have opened space facilities to the public. This time we experienced heavy rain, and at the same time we saw the unity of our people.

That is the emotional calling, which is also understandable. When you are emotionally charged, you don't see possible rational explanations and you are likely to do something that is in retrospect not much different from shooting yourself in the foot. But it felt good and right at that moment so that was what people wanted and what politicians made it surely happen. The real consequence is often not made public and is soon forgotten. It is like a funny stupid game we human beings play.

How do you mean there is no problem with drinking water ? does china have different water pipes for drinking water and shower water ?

Drinking water is purchased separately. Not tap water. Chinese don't trust the tap water as much as Americans do. Americans often buy water filters to further improve the tap water before drinking it. Chinese usually either boil the tap water (common in old times) or buy the bottled water (preferred by richer city folks).

The store has enough bottled water to buy. And it's not that the whole area is without water. Some of the cities in China used to belong to the countryside. These places have their own wells, and they have not stopped water. We can go to the villagers’ homes to pick up some water. The reason for the water cut was that some pumps were damaged by rain, and the water plant had enough water, and they would regularly send water trucks to discharge water on the streets. The lack of water is because there is not enough pressure in the water pipe after the pump is reduced. Therefore, water can only be supplied in turn in different regions.
