"Maitri Diwas" to reflect deep, abiding friendship between Bangladesh, India
UNB, Dhaka

Bangladesh and India will commemorate 6th December as "Maitri Diwas" or Friendship Day demonstrating that the emotional bonds stemming from the invaluable contribution of the government and the people of India in the Liberation War of Bangladesh remain a "dominant factor" in formulating Bangladesh-India relations.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam said Bangladesh and India are celebrating together the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Bangladesh-India relations (‘Maitree Diwas’) on December 6 at 18 selected cities across the globe along with Dhaka and New Delhi.

He recalled with utmost respect the brave freedom fighters of Bangladesh and the Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives for Bangladesh's Independence in 1971.

"The blood of over 18 thousand Indians, mingled with the millions of our own people, culminated in Bangladesh’s independence, and laid the basis of our special friendship," Shahriar said.

Arindam Bagchi, Official Spokesperson at the Indian Minister of External Affairs (MEA) said the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) will organise a special event on December 6 in New Delhi.
The event will see participation from both countries.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will send a video message for the event to be held in New Delhi, an official told UNB.

There will be celebrations in Dhaka too on the occasion.

"I want to emphasise that the holding of the Maitri Diwas is a reflection of the deep and abiding friendship between the people of India and the people of Bangladesh, that has been forged in blood and shared sacrifices," said Arindam Bagchi.

During the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh in March this year, it was decided to commemorate 6th December as "Maitri Diwas."

Just 10 days before the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971, India had recognised Bangladesh on December 6, 1971.

India was one of the first countries to establish bilateral diplomatic ties with Bangladesh.

Maitri Diwas has been commemorated in 18 countries around the world apart from Dhaka and New Delhi.

Other countries are Belgium, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Russia, Qatar, Singapore, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America.

Despite challenges in place including unresolved Teesta water sharing issue, Bangladesh and India have made some great achievements, including implementation of the Ganges Treaty, Land Boundary Agreement and addressed the cross-boundary terrorism, foreign affairs analysts say.

The two close neighbours also progressed much in terms of enhanced connectivity and trade though logistics remains a challenge.

Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Distinguished Fellow Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya in a recent discussion said, "Your agenda and my agenda are equally important. If you think my agenda is more important than the other, then you are not having the equal treatment within a sovereign territory.

I hope the leadership (of both the countries) will give content to these concepts.”

Shahriar said last 50 years are testimony, with ample evidence, how crucial Bangladesh-India relations are not only for bilateral partnership and peace, but also for greater regional stability and the development of the subcontinent.

"It’s my firm conviction that, last 50 years will guide us to navigate the course of next 50 years in the evolving scenario of the regional and global context, where the friendship and partnership would be deeper and more consolidated," he said.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam and Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Distinguished Fellow Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya are having an argument on who is the best brown-noser of India...

You-best ?!? Noooo - Me best !!!!

🤮

All Maitri garbage celebration with India (and "friendship" propaganda) is there for ONE reason, India's own self-interest.

There is not one ounce of Bangladesh' own interest in this.

In fact - Hasina is building six lane freeways through Bangladesh only to give free transit to Indian govt. in helping carrying goods to NE states.

@Bilal9, please send some valuable comments on this Debapriya's statement. Is he worse than our great ministers and govt advisors?

What the f is maiti diwas?
Maitri = Friendship

Diwas = Anniversary

India now celebrates 6th December, which is ten days before official victory day in Bangladesh (16th December), as Maitry Diwas. This is the day Indian Foreign Ministry recognized Bangladesh as a new nation in 1971.

IMHO, this is also the day Indian ghulams in Bangladesh got their running orders to use it as a captive market and vassal state of India. The non-ghulams in Bangladesh should remember this day as a day of shame and infamy, now existing for fifty years.

No - actually Debapriya baboo for once is right about agendas being solely 99% Indian agendas in dialogues with Bangladesh.

Sanghis only know how to take, never to give anything to Bangladesh. Itar low class small-spirited people.

They laughably claim as achievements - the following,

Despite challenges in place including unresolved Teesta water sharing issue, Bangladesh and India have made some great achievements, including implementation of the Ganges Treaty, Land Boundary Agreement and addressed the cross-boundary terrorism, foreign affairs analysts say.
The first two have been pending for four decades, Indian baboos have been dragging their feet because no one squeezed their balls hard enough.

The third (cross-boundary terrorism) was an ULFA thing, which was applicable only to benefit India. Bangladesh as usual gained nothing from the resolution of these issues. ZERO, ZIP, JACK$HIT, NADA, IXNAY.

Farakka and Teesta remain like the 800 pound gorilla in the room and nothing will happen unless we get some type of leverage to stop their unilateral withdrawal of water during lean season, and opening of gates during monsoon, which floods us.

With friends like these Sanghi Ba$tards, who needs enemies? It is a curse to have neighbors like these itar low-lifes.

We should have shut down all trade with India a long time ago, but we have Hasina who will NEVER do it. When she dies, let's see what can happen. Hasina is actually building six lane freeways for Indians to do free transit through Bangladesh with the NE states.

We spend hundreds of Billions building infra, so Indians can carry their good free through Bangladesh and improve infra in the NE. Great arrangement!

Our ministers and advisors in govt. are of course payr chatney-wala ghulams and dalals of India.

Debapriya baboo has actually come out with correct assessment. Jo kahan sach kahan. I applaud his courage for this.

He is lately becoming more truthful and can be seen in China-related policy discussions supporting China, which is a great sign.

Debapriya Bhattacharya has always been a patriotic Bangladeshi. He has more things in his head than many others combined, a legacy of eating Ghee and milk for more than 5000 years.

You are right. I am glad he is a patriotic Bangladeshi and a Hindu Brahmin to boot.

I doubted his patriotism earlier which was not right.

This guy is highly educated and understands national economic matters well.
But he is not in politics.

However, BD people are fond of electing persons like Suronjit Sengupta and do not elect people like Dr. Kamal Hossain.

We will understand it after the reaction of Hasina weather he is her favourite or not. Now let's wait and see what action will be taken against him.

But surely action against Indian assets has been started clearly. Now let's wait and see who is behind the scene!

I was disgusted listening to the call. This is what happens when a thug is made minister.

But I am curious how the call was recorded and who leaked? Clearly these are signs that there are people within intelligence community fed up with these thugs bossing them around.

Exactly. I also think so. I believe the deep state is activating themselves again. Now it's hard to say what's next. But I believe deep state won't let the state Bangladesh die.

I think they are cleaning weeds. Now for me it's impossible to assume the future as only people related to state mechanism can understand both state and deep state and it's mechanism correctly.

At best armature people like me just can assume with some equation.

But one thing is clear and that is durga puja incident was the final nail into the coffin of India Bangladesh friendly relationship. The incident was clearly not any isolated incident , but a long term plan to vilification of Bangladesh!

( The problem became severe after India stopped exporting vaccines by destabilising Bangladesh.)

You see during the horror ( durga puja ; that could lead to a massive communal riot, thanks to Allah we controlled it) , this Murad was ranting about state religion , so that people can be diverted?

And he created controversy after controversy and Pinaky Bhattacharya claimed that he is a direct raw asset.

Perhaps that's the reason now Bangladesh is neutralising raw assets inside Bangladesh.

You can take a look on the article of Gautam Das that I posted. He described the situation about the relationship between Bangladesh and India nicely ( imo) .

But don't be surprised. Most BAL folks belong in lumpen class, maybe not so vulgar like this one, but they aren't good people!
