We are all aware about Pakistan importing cars from Japan. The big news is that Japan is now importing rickshaws from Pakistan. The three-wheeler rickshaws of Pakistan are now exported to Japan.

Sazgar Engineering is the local Pakistani company that is exporting its famous 4-Stroke CNG auto rickshaws to Japan.

Japan is a country that itself has a strong automobile industry. Japan has such an established market that exporting rickshaws from Pakistan is quite astonishing.

The citizens of Japan use these rickshaws for entertainment and leisure purposes.

Vehicles are made all around the world, but the special kind of colorful trucks and traditional rickshaws are uniqueness of Pakistan as per the Sazgar Engineering sales head Ismail. So these rickshaws are gaining popularity in Japan due to their unique attraction.

Road safety is extremely important in Japan. These rickshaws do adhere to the standards of road safety in Japan. So the rickshaws are road legal and they can be used on highways, Ismail further added.

These are manufactured in Pakistan, but not designed and developed in Pakistan. We have a long way to go before we reach that level.

This is what is needed to design a product from scratch:

    1. Materials Engineering: The knowledge of various materials, their properties, manufacturing techniques, and ability to produce them locally.

    2. Mechanical Engineering: The knowledge of how to combine the materials in 1 to make a useful product. The various forces that act on structures, what stresses are faced by them. Knowledge of welds, joins, and their properties.

2a. Structural Engineering: For products that face a high degree of stresses, such as vibrations, the specialized branch of structural engineering studies techniques to predict and control these stresses. It is not only related to construction, but also applies to aircrafts, missiles, rockets etc.

    3. Electrical/Electronics Engineering: Control systems to electronically control the movement of mechanical structures in 2.

    4. (Electro)Optical Engineering: In products such as LEDs, LCDs, gun sights, the disciplines of electronics and optics come together.

    5. Systems Engineering and Design: To take a product requirement, translate it into sub-projects for individual engineering teams, coordinate their synchronization, bringing it all together into the final product. To consider things such an usability, user friendliness, safety, etc.

There is much, much more. I don't think we have any of this in the public sector. In the military domain, we might be at initial stages in some of them.

We need an organized governmental initiative to bring us to this level. It ain't gonna happen by itself.

Part of the CPEC initiative is to make Pakistan self sufficient in the above. It is happening but will take a number of years.

Bhai, do you think some foreigner will come and teach you all of this to make you independent? We need our idiot government to take the initiative and make all of this happen. What CPEC will do is give Pakistanis the taste of luxury, and give them enough ability to earn a good income. You won't be designing original products. There are multiple levels:

    1. Agrarian. We are largely agrarian with inefficient practices.
    2. Industrial. The ability to independently design and produce common consumer goods in your own country, using widely known scientific, engineering, and manufacturing practices.
    3. Informational: Researching new areas of science and technology, getting patents, increasing the intellectual property.

If our government doesn't wake up and do its job, the Chinese will be doing the hard work and we will forever by mental slaves to others.

I agree with what you say. CPEC aside, I was insinuating that we need help from China and other countries ATM, in order to become self-suffient in this endevour. The hard work IS and WILL be done by us but for now we do need outside assistance.

We need to plan for it. At the governmental level, we need to set our goals towards achieving industrialization, and then become an information economy. Once this goal is set, there needs to be a campaign to change the population's mindset, their aims and ambitions. Unfortunately, at the governmental level, we are obsessed with showing people power on the GT Road.

At the governmental level, schemes such as Benazir Scheme and whatnots is conditioning the people into thinking that success in life is blind faith and support of the political party which will feed you and look after you. People should be ready to come out on the streets. We are a nation that thrives in Dharnas, because political parties invest millions in providing food, water, security, seating arrangements in rallies. This is what we are doing to our nation.
