Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) Anwar Abbas (ANTARA/Anom Prihantoro)

MUI calls on participants of the summit of Islamic countries in Kuala Lumpur or KL Summit to take a firm and stern stance against the Chinese government.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) Secretary General Anwar Abbas urged the ongoing Kuala Lumpur (KL) Summit to take a firm, stern stance against China to optimally fight the repression of the Uighur ethnic group in Xinjiang.

"The MUI calls on participants of the summit of Islamic countries in Kuala Lumpur or the KL Summit to take a firm and stern stance against the Chinese government," Abbas noted in a written statement released on Friday.

He stated that Muslims across the world vehemently oppose China's mistreatment of Uighur Muslims.

The Chinese government has blatantly violated the human rights of Uighur Muslims, including preventing them from offering religious services in accordance with their religion and belief, he remarked.

"We realize that as a state, China has the right to govern them. However, they must not oppress the human rights of their people, especially the fundamental rights of Muslims there," he stated.

He urged the Chinese government to end violence against Uighur Muslims with immediate effect. The ethnic minority in China should be given an opportunity to exercise their religious rights and follow their religious teachings properly.

In the absence of this, the world will be dragged into new local and global tensions, he cautioned.

"People in each country, especially Muslim nations, including Indonesia, will appeal to their government to take a firm stand on the Chinese government. Thus, this will have a detrimental impact on the development they are conducting," he added. Related news: Indonesian Ulema Council strongly condemns oppression of Chinese Uighurs

Chinese enjoy good relations with Pakistan and I hope they don't take it as harshly.

They even brought/allowed Muslim Ulemas to see the condition of Chinese Muslims.

China can be friend of Muslims being we all Asians. This matter can be solved

Again...these are for loose sound bytes and lack of situation on ground.

Every country can fool their people in media to go against China and West, but on reality, it is difficult.

MUI?.. Sorry but I won't take them seriously as long as clowns like Tengku Zulkarnaen is in there on the high position.

Anyway, most news regarding Uighur circulating in Indonesia are taken from western sources.. The same sources who said to the world that Iraq had WMD and also the same sources who defend Israel's action in Palestine at every angle.

Problem in Xinjiang is best solved through dialogues, real visit, real meetings, clear out any misunderstanding from both Muslim world and China. Don't follow the beat of the dishonest third party.

Real situation or not, Indonesia had more urgen matter compared to taking issue like Uighur, Rohingya or Palestine. When the Chinese came here to invest and trading the Uighur came here to joint East Muhajidin terrorist movements like those scums

Yes, therefore they know that not everything negative about Xinjiang circulating out there are true, which is why I say dialogue is the best way to solve the matter.

Moreover, we ourselves are still have problem with religious discrimination against our minorities happen in our own lands, we should not meddle much on other country's domestic affair.

This is one of the reasons why Pakistan must have avoided this summit.

We cant anger Saudi, china, Iran all three of these pull us in opposite directions... You can count united united states in there too...

Turkey is by far the best among all our friends i think not a single person in pakistan would ever go against wishes of Turkey.

As for xinjiang Problem as a person who has lived in xinjiang for 3 years i know its just political garbage. It has nothing to do with faith, religion or beliefs of islam. China is filled with muslims only xinjiang one province has this issue... All because of political and ethical fissures.

Not a muslim muslim thing. Unlike India burma problems
