CM Sindh announced that Sindh govt has fixed a huge amount of Rs 6.5 billion in the budget-2021-22 for new buses in Karachi.

The diesel hybrid electric buses would run under Sindh Intra District Peoples Bus Services Project.

He said that Rs699 million has been allocated for the construction of the BRTS Orange Line in Karachi.

He said that work on BRT Red Line Karachi will start this year and for which the govt has reserved Rs469 million while Rs.15.955 billion from foreign project assistance.

During their two-day visit to Islamabad, a high-level Korean delegation led by Mr. Chong Hwa Lee, Director General, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Republic of Korea, met with Minister for Economic Affairs Omar Ayub Khan in his office. The meeting was also attended by H.E. Suh Sangpyo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Islamabad, and representatives of the Korean EXIM Bank.

A credit deal for the establishment of an IT park in Karachi was also signed on the sidelines of the meeting. The project will cost roughly $199 million in total, with the EXIM Bank contributing $158 million.

This initiative aims to create an IT-enabled high-tech infrastructure in Pakistan that will allow IT companies to collaborate by using each other’s expertise, boost industry-academic collaboration, and promote entrepreneurship.

Both parties discussed a future roadmap for securing funding for possible projects as well as methods to speed up project implementation.

Bloomberg announced that the World Bank (WB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are investing $1 billion in Karachi to help modernize public transportation. Bus networks on dedicated lanes are the focus of the projects.

Syed Awais Qadir Shah, Sindh's Minister for Transport and Mass Transit, said in an interview that work on the $550 million Red Line, which is being funded by the Asian Development Bank, will begin this month, and the $455 million World Bank-funded design will begin before the end of the year.

The minister also announced that the ADB's Red Line project will include 280 custom-built buses that will run on methane before switching to batteries. The province aims to develop a biogas plant to generate methane from animal waste.

First consignment of buses to arrive next Sunday: Asad Umar

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Asad Umar on Saturday said that the first consignment of 40 Green Line Project buses would arrive from China next Sunday.

He said Green Line was the first state-of-the-art project, which was being introduced to the city with 20.5 kilometre long corridor.

He stated this while addressing a press conference along with Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi at KPT Port House Karachi.

Asad Umar said a bus depot had been built for 80 buses whereas 22 bus stations had been completed.

He informed that a comprehensive Command and Control Centre had been established for the projects including Green, Orange Line etc. He said the second consignment of 40 more buses was expected to reach by end October. Asad Umar said the Green Line would be made operation in the month of November.

He said cleaning of nullahs of the city was in the process. The minister said cleaning work including sewage system would also be started in Lyari and Malir in the second phase.

The Minister said PTI-led government would complete Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project soon.

Initially around 450,000 passengers would be facilitated on daily basis and by time it would grow to over 1 million passengers daily.

He said a 55 kilometres long Freight Corridor from Karachi Port to Pipri would be built along with main track. He added that freight items would be transported by train instead of trucks or other vehicles.

Asad Umar said water was a big problem of the city and K-IV project was pending for years, adding, the PTI-led government had re-started work on the project.

He said under Ahsas Programme the federal government had provided Rs65 billion to Sindh including Rs seven billion to Karachi.

He said Karachiites had been provided Rs10 billion vaccination doses, adding, after 18th amendment the health sector was the responsibility of the provincial government but, Sindh government had even not provided a single dose of the vaccine to a citizen.

'The federation would provide vaccine doses worth Rs25 billion in-all to Karachi'. He said the census would be carried out by using modern technology.

He, on the occasion, also criticised Pakistan Peoples Party for non-deliverance in the province.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Syed Ali Haider Zaidi urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to conduct fair and transparent elections of cantonment boards in different parts of the city on Sunday (September 12).

In a bid to fix Karachi’s garbage problem, the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has purchased 27 new garbage trucks to begin a door-to-door cleanup system in Karachi’s district Keamri and West.

According to MD SSWMB, 27 new garbage lifting machines and 128 dustbins have been provided to district Keamari and West teams for door-to-door collection of waste.

SSWMB managing director Zubair Channa earlier directed Chinese contractors to change their methods of cleaning the city and adopt international standards.

The provincial government last year had reportedly purchased more than 200 Qingqi rickshaws to collect door-to-door municipal waste from houses across Karachi.

$3.2 Billion Karachi Coastal Comprehensive Development Zone (KCCDZ) included under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor framework.

MARITIME MINISTRY INITIATES A HUGE ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION PROJECT FOR KARACHI UNDER CPEC

A monumental decision was taken during the 10th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) on CPEC, held on 23rd September 2021 at Islamabad and Beijing. The two countries agreed to include Karachi Coastal Comprehensive Development Zone (KCCDZ) under the CPEC framework.

KCCDZ, an initiative of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs focuses on providing Karachi with an ultra modern urban infrastructure zone, placing Karachi amongst the top port cities of the world.

In a first of its kind even for CPEC, the planned multibillion dollar mega KCCDZ project will be built on direct Chinese investment in partnership with Karachi Port Trust (KPT). The quantum of expected investment is around USD 3.5 billion.

Work continues on rehabilitation of two major drains in Karachi.

𝐆𝐮𝐣𝐣𝐚𝐫 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬


Removal of Solid Waste (550,000 tons) & widening of drain was completed in phase-I. This resulted in smooth flow of rainwater during Monsoon 2021. After Monsoon season, work on balance activities will be started; likely to be completed by end July 2022

Required dredging and excavation was completed well before onset of Monsoon 2021. Construction of RCC wall was also completed in record time while 70,000 tons of solid waste was removed, resulting in smooth flow of water.
Work on laying of sewers, construction of roads and some other activities is in progress. Project has entered in completion stage and InshAllah will be completed by 31 October 2021
