New Delhi: The largest indigenously- developed offshore patrol vessel INS Sumitra was on Thursday delivered to the Indian Navy here by the state-owned Goa Shipyard Limited delivered.

The warship delivered to the Navy was the fourth in the series of 105-metre vessels built by the shipyard for the Navy and the third to be delivered in the last 10 months.

"The vessel was handed over by GSL chief Rear Admiral (Retd) Shekhar Mital to the Commanding Officer-Designate of the warship Commander Milind Mokashi," a GSL release said.

INS Sumitra, which is Navy's largest Offshore Patrol Vessel, is fitted with large number of state-of-the-art indigenous electronic, communication and weapon systems, it said.

The vessel will help meet the increasing requirements of the Navy for undertaking ocean surveillance and surface warfare operations in order to prevent infiltration and transgression of maritime sovereignty and is suitable for monitoring sea lanes of communication, defence of offshore oil installations and other critical offshore national assets.

"The vessel can be deployed for escorting high value ships and fleet support operations," it said. The first three of the 105-metre series of vessels include the INS Saryu, INS Sunayana and INS Sumedha.

...and with this, the Saryu-class OPV line comes to an end. All 4 vessels delivered.

Next up, it are the 5 advanced NOPVs to be delivered by Pipavav Shipyards...their construction already
started last year and given the private shipyards' work schedules, they should be delivered much quicker
    than these first four.

Construction of first 2 vessels has already begun and pre-production work of remaining 3 is going on, according
    to Pipavav's official website.

Not that I don't trust you,but a source will be appreciated:-)

Also,Kirlsokar license manufactures SEMT Pielstick diesel engines India, and the engine in these vessels are also SEMT Pielstick one's. Do you think they use this one uses Kirloskar made engines?

If yes, then its am entirely Indian made vessel-propulsion to armament to aircrafts!

I'm sure about the number there bro, 4 Saryus and 5 NOPVs from Pipavav. I'm not sure where I'd find a good enough
    source, but I'll try.

Kirloskar indeed has tie-up with Pielstick but I heard long time ago Kirloskar failed to deliver the engines in time and was
therefore removed from bidding. I have no info after that.

However Kirloskar's website does state them delivering engines to navy and coast guard. Also they are the ones who gave the water jet engines for Car Nicobar class ,licensed from MTU.
