India, Thailand Eyeing Stronger Defence Ties

NEW DELHI, March 27 (Bernama) -- India and Thailand on Thursday explored the possibilities of deepening defence cooperation between both countries, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

Thailand's Permanent Secretary of Defence Gen Sirichai Distakul, who is on a three-day visit to India, held meetings with Indian Defence Secretary R K Mathur and Secretary of Defence Production G Mohan Kumar.

Sources said the talks focused on strengthening collaborative efforts in production in the defence sector.

"Thailand is keen to join hands with India in manufacturing small weapons," they said.

The Defence Ministry has been looking to engage with Thailand and the first step was made during a visit by then defence minister A K Antony to that country in 2013.
