The latest QS World University Rankings saw yet another dismal performance by the Indian universities. None of the institutes in India made it even to the Top 200 universities across the globe. India was perhaps the only BRICS nation to not feature among the world's top 200 educational institutions. Industry players, however, blame this to lack of awareness.

University of Delhi, which had featured in the 398th position last year, did not make it even to the world's top 400 universities this year.

Indeed. India should give up its crazy ambitions of the Look East policy and work on its long-term domestic issues.

Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa make up the BRICS grouping.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Delhi comes at the 212th rank, followed by IIT-Bombay at 227th position and IIT-Kanpur at 278th. Though the ranking of IIT-Delhi rose six positions compared with the previous year, that of IIT-Bombay dropped two positions. IIT-Kanpur also fared better compared to last year. Even in the Asian rankings, India just has 11 institutes among the top 300 institutes.

University of Delhi, which had featured in the 398th position last year, did not make it even to the world's top 400 universities this year. It featured in the 78th position in the QS Asian university rankings this year. India had 11 institutes in the top 200 ranking for Asian institutes last year.

However, education industry players are of the view that this performance is not because of the lack of educational standards but due to lack of awareness.

Echoing the same concerns, Narayanan Ramaswamy, head of education practice at consultancy major KPMG, added several universities did not even participate in this process due to lack of awareness and did not give adequate information when asked for it. "The issue here is we do not even have people to validate the necessary information when they are contacted by the concerned authorities.”

Industry experts added Indian institutes had to improve factors like internationalisation, emphasis on research faculty and incentivised research, in order to be featured among the top institutes of the world. "World rankings place a huge emphasis on research and reserach output. This is what we lack in Indian institutions. Though institutions like the IITs rank well in engineering disciplines, we do not have multidisciplinary universities undertaking world class research in full range of disciplines. That is why they do not feature among the top universities in the world, " said Nikhil Sinha, vice-chancellor, Shiv Nadar University.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) overtook Cambridge University this year as the world's number one university, as per the ranking.- end of text-

how does india expect to have world class unis when their foundation is the lowest ranked dropout:

And their obsession of China never seems to go away!

What a retarded statement. India Look East policy is to establish better relations with East- Asian nations.

How is it even remotely related to quality of Indian Universities.

As a matter of fact Indian Universities might benefit if they have ties with some successful East-Asian Universities from Japan, SK etc.

We need to develop Universities like those in USA..
We have mumbai university, Pune unviersity in Maharashtra but they do not have single campus..thousands of colleges are spread over huge geographical area in each of these universities..thus making it difficult to maintain standards..

spending on education and this has no relation, we spend more on education than even the UK............. but the whole system of selection for universities, faculty training and educational content are obsolete ,its the same everywhere in india............. process of just conducting entrances with repeated questions and training institutes which train for passing entrances but have no intention for knowledge have to be eliminated .................. the education system has more to learn from the movie "three idiots" than some of the members advice with MMRCA insecurities... man such insecurity that it shoes up in almost all the threads but i do want to remind them that indian spends just 3% of GDP on defence which is the global average..........

Yes, ofcourse but that will make university degree a dream for majority of Indians. In Kerala an MBBS student has to spend just 2.5 lakh on his degree. Can you get that degree in USA with that amount.

In short in the words of V Channel....Itnaich Paisa Mein Itnaich Milenga.

And the cycle goes on...So nobody has any right to tell us what we should scale back defense for social welfare and Indians have our history before us. India always paid a heavy price for being sloppy in our defense ..the last one being 1962.

So the last one to give us any advice is the citizens of county(s) who directly threaten our territorial integrity.

What is the issue with eastern unis? Some I know say it's a lack of true tenure (protection for un-popular theories and ideas)
