The only reason India pushed back US request to break relations with Russia is to neutralize Pakistan IK attempt at forming an alliance with Russia and China. If IK didn't visit Russia then Modi and India would have behaved differently.
If Pakistan started becoming closer to the yanks, they will move even closer to the US. This is how the Indians work. Pakistan foreign policy with PMLN and PPP is just bootlicking the highest bidder

Russia also follow the same. Russia does not want to lose india. It is the reason, doesn't not sell advance defense systems to Pakistan. If Russia will sell to Pakistan than he will lose indian defense market.
India strives for independent foreign policy but it would be a mistake to assume that American pressure does not affect India among other countries. It does.
Trump administration pressured India to drop its oil import from Iran.
This was difficult decision for India but it obliged.
Biden administration have not pressured India to similar extent but have conveyed its expectations to India in recent meetings.
India is in search for Middle Ground between Russia and USA to fulfill its needs on the other hand.

Americans have a realistic view of Indian commitments, and this shows that Indian diplomatic efforts are sharp.

India used to seek IMF bailout package(s) in times of the Cold War but managed to fix its economy. India have become a much bigger market than Pakistan and also have hard cash to purchase expensive stuff. Pakistan is not able to compete with India on these lines unfortunately.
Indian coping capacity for American pressure is better than Pakistan in view of its diplomatic and economic strengths.

Factor of China, it is actually helping and favoring to India... Now india can purchase most of the advance military weapons which were denied by the US and west till the end of cold War.
