It depends whether these are trapped shale gas/oil reserves otherwise there shouldnt be any
That is a good solution to gas theft but considering the reliance of general public on current infrastructure it will take at least a decade to shift our habbits. Secondly cyllinders are not safe considering the poor quality and rusted cyllinders being used all across pakistan.

We've been discovering 'huge' reserves for as long as I can remember. Coal, gas, copper you name it.

Yup and the sad truth is after initial discovery we do not hear of these reserves again.

I have two comments about this find. Firstly, huge, vast & large are all general terms; the report does not give any detail of the size or production rate. Sui deposits were 10 tcf: even if this field is half as big, it is very good news indeed.

Secondly, I read a post suggesting installation of LNG plants. Please understand that conversion of natural gas to LNG is a capital intensive process. One needs to cool the gas to minus 161 Deg C before it turns to liquid. Estimated capital requirement in the USA is about $1,500 per ton but in Pakistan it could be as much as $2,000 per ton of plant capacity to construct an LNG train. Understand a recent LNG plant in British Columbia with the capacity of 19-million tons per year is projected to cost USD 27-billion. (1-million tons of LNG is equal to 48.7-bilion cft. BC plant capacity is therefore 2.5- billion cft per day)

Natural gas is roughly 85 to 90% methane but LNG can be 99% methane, thus LNG is no doubt cleaner. However LNG conversion of natural gas is only carried out to make it easier to transport across the water. Over land natural gas is universally transported via pipeline. Also, unlike LPG; LNG needs to be re-gasified before the same can be used.

LNG being at minus 161C, needs special ‘Cryogenic’ cylinders. Additionally, LNG being extremely cold, there is danger of severe frost bite to eyes or skin when possibility of contact with LNG liquid, cold gas or cold equipment exists. I have come across some companies specializing direct use of LNG for industrial consumers and even in the transport; however never for domestic use as in LPG cylinders. I would guess that reason for this could be high cost and safety considerations.

Finally, I hope that this news is based on some facts and not just a propaganda.

Thank you. Scanned all the comments to find your as soon as I read the report. I guess we don't have much to celebrate until the gas starts flowing somewhere.

Country with 1.3 trillion population frustratingly unable to invade Pakistan, just hope that someone else will do their bidding. Pathetic perverted mindset

sir, this is mostly likely based on geological prognosis, because there have been no drilling going on in that area, otherwise this would have made headlines......
