Govt launches online platform to help farmers sell their produce

The agriculture ministry and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division have jointly launched an online service named "Food for Nation" to buy and sell all sorts agricultural products online.

Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque inaugurated the service through a videoconference on Saturday.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister for the ICT Division, and Md Nasiruzzaman, secretary to the agriculture ministry, virtually took part in the inaugural ceremony.

People can buy and sell agricultural goods from any part of the country using this online service.

People can open their personal accounts by visiting www.foodfornation.gov.bd, using their phone numbers along with a user account password.

Every citizen of the country can use this service.

If someone wants to sell an agricultural product, they must go to the adds section of the website and post an add where they have to provide the names of products, their quantities and prices.

If anyone wants to buy a product, they can directly contact sellers through the published add in the website.

Again, for transportation of the goods, various app-based vehicles (motorbikes, trucks, microbuses, launches and postal services vehicles) can be contracted.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, "Through this online platform, any agro-based product manufacturers, traders, retailers and sellers can easily market and sell their products without any hassle."

"Thus everyone from producers to buyer and sellers will be benefitted and the farmers in the remote areas of the country will get the fair price for their produce."

"We will also launch an app for this online service very soon," added the ICT state minister.

Dr Abdur Razzaque said, "Farmers in the country are not able to market their produce properly due to the ongoing crisis of the coronavirus along and Cyclone Amphan in the country"

"Sometimes the farmers cannot break even the cost of production after selling their produce due to unfair pricing," he added.

The agriculture minister said that the producers and buyers will be benefitted using this online service.
