Garuda Indonesia is to be confirmed as the world's newest 5-Star Airline

    11th December 2014 - London, UK

Skytrax have confirmed that Garuda Indonesia is to be announced as the newest member of the exclusive group of 5-Star Airlines.

Commenting on the 5-Star Airline rating to be announced, Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax said: "This is recognition of the major turnaround in quality standards at Garuda Indonesia, reflecting the hard work by the airline in recent years, and we delighted to confirm that they are now meeting the 5-Star Airline. This rating is based on an all-round assessment of the product and service, onboard and at the airport. We place a lot of importance on the fact that the majority of customers travel in Economy and it is the quality and consistency of those standards that contribute greatly to Garuda securing 5-Stars. Consistency of an airline's product and service is a major part of the 5-Star rating, with Garuda's long haul fleet now offering Business Class flat-bed seating and 32-34 inch seat pitch in Economy Class. Customers can also experience the new First and Business Class 5-Star service concept rolled out across the Boeing 777-300ER fleet."

This 5-Star Airline rating also takes account of planned airport and service changes in 2015, when Garuda will transfer to the new Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, it's home base hub. This will provide a new home for Garuda Indonesia and SkyTeam member airlines, improving the travel experience through enhanced transfers and airport service, together with improved and expanded premium passenger facilities.

Garuda Indonesia has one of the youngest fleets in Asia with an average aircraft age of just 4.02 years (December 2014), consisting of 130 aircraft, and due to grow to 145 aircraft in 2015.

The "Garuda Indonesia Experience" brings hospitality, culture, and everything best from Indonesia through five senses, namely sight, sound, taste, scent, and touch, to be implemented in the service of pre-journey, pre-flight, in-flight, post-flight, and post journey.

Garuda to run flights from China during Chinese New Year

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CHONGQIAN -- Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will launch chartered flights from 10 Chinese cities to Bali, Indonesia, during the Chinese New Year holidays, a Garuda executive said.

"The unscheduled flight services will run from January 29 to March 29," I Wayan Subagia, Garuda's deputy president for China, said on Saturday.

The Chinese cities from which these flight services will commence are Harbin, Xi'an, Shenyang, Chengzhou, Tiayuan, Chengdu, Chongqing, Ningbo, Wuhan and Nanjing.
"On average, the passenger seat occupancy rate has reached 100 percent," Subagia said.

He said that a target of 27 thousand passengers had been set for the chartered flights. The unscheduled flights will also serve as an exploration for opening new routes for regular flights from China to Indonesia.

For over a decade, Garuda has served the Beijing-Jakarta, Shanghai-Jakarta, Guangzhou-Jakarta and Beijing-Denpasar routes.

"It is possible that one of the unscheduled flight routes spells good prospects and that we can narrow down to a regular flight route," he said.

He added that Garuda has explored the unscheduled flights for a long time because of continued demand from the Chinese market.

"But at the time, we did not have a large enough fleet and crew members. We have now been able to commence this service since January this year. The destination is still focused on Bali because 80 percent of Chinese travelers prefer Bali as one of their destinations for a holiday," he pointed out.

Garuda Indonesia has set a target to fly some 50 thousand Chinese tourists during the holiday season of Chinese New Year (Imlek) 2015 through regular and charter flights.

Subagia told Antara on Friday that the passenger seat occupancy rate for Garuda Indonesia's China-Indonesia routes has reached 87 percent.

For regular flights, Garuda Indonesia has set a target to fly 16,799 Chinese tourists to Indonesia during Imlek 2015.

"From January 29 till February 13, charter flights will carry around 5,323 people, with an average seat occupancy rate of 100 percent," Subagia stated.

"The schedule for the charter flights for Imlek is from January 29 to March 29," he added.

The Chinese Civil Aviation Administration has forecast that some 29 million Chinese will opt for air travel during Imlek 2015, reflecting an increase of around 12.5 percent from last year.

The Chinese will celebrate New Year 2015 on February 19. The Chinese government has announced a week-long holiday for the New Year celebrations.

"The World's Best Cabin Crew 2015" award was given to Garuda Indonesia based on a global customer satisfaction survey" conducted by Skytrax of more than 18 million passengers. The survey, which covers 245 international airlines, is held every year and measures standards across 41 key performance indicators of airline products and services.

Garuda Indonesia's success in winning the "The World's Best Cabin Crew" title once more in 2015 reflects the tireless hard work and deep commitment from everyone at Garuda Indonesia, in particular our cabin crew, to deliver service of the highest standard to our passengers. We would also like to thank our loyal passengers for continuing to support Garuda Indonesia hence enabling us to win the trust and "The World's Best Cabin Crew" award for the second consecutive year," said Arif.

Garuda Indonesia named Most Improved Airline
Garuda Indonesia wins 'Most Improved Airline' award for its 'dramatic turnaround'

    Jakarta | Tue, November 15, 2016

Garuda Indonesia has been named Most Improved Airline by AirlineRatings.com, an independent plane safety and product rating website, for its improvements in service and safety.

AirlineRatings.com appears to have taken notice of the national flag carrier’s improvements over the last five years. Garuda has also refurbished its airplanes and been cleared to fly to Europe and the US.

Garuda corporate communications vice president Benny S. Butarbutar said the award “reassures the hard work and process of improving Garuda services for its passengers”, as quoted by kompas.com on Monday. “In fact, toward the future, this award will be a challenge that will have to be overcome with more innovations that will add value to Garuda Indonesia."

The perception of Garuda used to be quite different. In the late 1990s and early-to-mid 2000s, the company was hit by financial and operational difficulties that caused its service standards suffer severely. It was even banned (along with all other Indonesian airlines) from entering Europe due to the country’s poor safety ratings.

But after that low point, the company initiated a series of programs, dubbed the Quantum Leap expansion plan, to turn the struggling airline around. Since then, its performance has consistently improved by leaps and bounds each year, earning it the aforementioned praise and awards. Buoyed by Garuda’s performance, the whole Indonesian airline industry has also seen great increases in standards, leading to the United States upgrading the country’s safety rating this year, allowing Indonesian carriers to operate routes to US cities for the first time in over a decade.

That is why Airlineratings.com, which tags itself as the world’s foremost airline safety and product rating website, decided to recognize Garuda Indonesia with its “Most Improved Airline” award this year. As explained in a press release announcing the award:

[Most Improved Airline] has been won by Garuda Indonesia in recognition of the dramatic turnaround by the country’s national carrier. Over the past five years the airline has made enormous strides to improve its in-flight product, operational and fiscal performance. It has renewed its entire fleet, been approved for European and US operations and is now considered a world class operation. AirlineRatings.com editors were unanimous in their praise of the professionalism of Garuda Indonesia’s operation and the speed of the airline’s turnaround.

Garuda the most loved airline in the world 2016 - Skytrax

    Jumat, 9 Desember 2016 14:02 WIB

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The nations flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has received a citation of "The Worlds Most Loved Airline" from the Skytrax, the world airline rating agency.

Garuda Indonesia President M Arif Wibowo said when receiving the citation here on Thursday that the airline topped other airlines with satisfaction rate of 85 percent.

"Our greatest thanks for our customers and airline workers," Arif said, attributing the high appreciation for the airline performance to cooperation of a team of thousands hands in creating the strong brand.

He said he did not expect to receive the citation as he was not aware of the existence of that category.

He said the citation would bring bout challenge and at the same time give the airline a motivation to create the highest standard of service.

CEO of SkyTrax Edward Plaisted said the citation was given based on a survey involving respondents from 40 countries.

Garuda competed with 420 other airlines included in the survey, Plaisted said.

"Garuda deserves the citation for highest level of services and satisfaction," he said.

The airline provides good facility for both main, business and economic classes with five-star standard, he said.

The airline has succeeded in taking a big leap forward after it was banned from flying to Europe several years earlier for poor service and performance including air accidents.

It also began to chalk up operating profit only in the past several years after years of being in the red.

Garuda also operated a budget subsidiary Citilink, which provided low-cost flights to multiple Indonesian destinations and was spun-off in 2012. (*)

Garuda maintains status as five-star airline
    Jakarta | Thu, February 8, 2018 | 05:33 pm

National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has maintained its status as a five-star airline after it was given the rating by British-based global airline consultancy Skytrax, while its subsidiary, low-cost airline Citilink, received a four-star rating.

Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted handed over a certification of renewal to Garuda Indonesia president director Pahala N. Mansury on the sidelines of the 2018 Singapore Airshow at the Changi Exhibition Center in Singapore on Thursday.

Pahala said the achievement reflected hard work and a strong commitment by Garuda management and its employees in maintaining high-quality services.

“The achievement is of great importance for Garuda because the Skytrax airline rating system is an instrument to measure service quality. It could improve the airline's competitiveness,” Pahala said in a statement, adding that it also reflected the country's hospitality industry, which could help to strengthen national branding.

Meanwhile, Plaisted praised Garuda’s commitment to maintaining high standards. “Amid tough competition in the aviation industry, Garuda Indonesia managed to maintain its service quality standards,” he added.

Of 200 airlines that were inspected, only 10 were given a five-star rating by Skytrax. The nine others are Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, Qatar Airways, Etihad, Asiana Airline, All Nippon Airlines, Hainan Airlines and Lufthansa.

Meanwhile, Citilink received a four-star rating, making it the first low-cost airline in Asia to have received the status. Among other airlines that were given the four-star rating are Norwegian Air and EasyJet from the UK. (bbn)

Garuda Named 2018 World`s Best Airline Cabin Crew
    Wednesday, 18 July, 2018 | 10:04 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has again scored a remarkable achievement by being named the 2018 World`s Best Cabin Crew for the five consecutive years since 2014 by the Skytrax, a United Kingdom-based consultancy which runs an airline and airport review and ranking site.

The Best Airline Cabin Crew awards recognize the highest all-round performance of cabin staff, for hard service in terms of techniques, efficiency, attention etc, and soft service characteristics in terms of staff enthusiasm, attitude, friendliness and hospitality.

Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted presented the award to Garuda Indonesia President Director Pahala N. Mansury at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2018 in London, along with the Farnborough International Airshow 2018 in England, on Tuesday.

"The appreciation certainly has its own meaning for us in the midst of various operational performance challenges faced by the company, and thus, Garuda will prove its commitment by continuously improving the quality standard of the best-recognized cabin crew service," Pahala said in a written statement received on Tuesday.

Pahala said the award is a matter of pride because Garuda Indonesia is the only world airline to have successfully maintained "The World`s Best Cabin Crew" for five consecutive years.

According to him, this award is a clear proof of the ongoing commitment and hard work of Garuda Indonesia employees, especially the cabin crew members who have presented the best services to all service users of Garuda.

"This award is also a challenge for us all in Garuda Indonesia in the future to continue to provide the best Indonesian hospitality service to the world," he said.

According to him, the determination of Garuda Indonesia as "The World`s Best Cabin Crew 2018" is based on assessment through customer satisfaction survey conducted by Skytrax globally by involving more than 18 million passengers.

The survey was conducted on more than 245 international airlines, and held annually by measuring 41 major aspects related to products and services provided by airlines.

In the meantime, Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted said the "World`s Best Cabin Crew" award is one of the most prestigious honors in the world of aviation.

"Garuda Indonesia has proven a consistent form of giving perfection in service to all passengers," said Edward.

In addition to grabbing "World`s Best Cabin Crew" for the fifth time, through the Skytrax awards, Garuda Indonesia also maintained its performance as Top 10 World`s Best Airline.

Good work. Looks like Pakistan should hire some managerial staff from Garuda to teach incompetent b@$$tards employed in PIA, but privatizing PIA is the best long term option .
