Instructors from several French army units (Marines,FFL,Engineers,logistics..) participed in a special course to familiarize themselves with the AK47 before going on short or long term deployments abroad.

Its very low cost, its robustness its reliability and its great ease of maintenance, makes it extremely popular, in particular with countries with few financial means. (Not to add this is a weapon used by the vast majority of terror groups)

If the use of this weapon and the instruction which goes with it is not new for French soldiers (in particular for those instructing partner foreign armies), this complete and official training was emphasized around of two learning phases:

- handling of this emblematic rifle (characteristics, assembly / disassembly, etc.)
- shooting (in different circumstances and environments).

There will be more and more special courses to familiarize French soldiers with weapons and vehicles which aren't in the French armed forces inventory. (Soon the M16 among others)

No,these aren't AK74s. The barrel is well different from the AK74s. Those weapons were purchased from Poland, apparently.

Well, then it is Polish derivative of AK. Call it "Karabinek Szturmowy wz.96 Beryl" or something like that. I suppose they do not have the legal right to call their derivatives "AK". And in Russia we call the original gun simply "AK", it is not correct to call it "AK-47" - common mistake.
