ABBOTABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairperson Imran Khan launched the first-ever tourism policy in K-P with the objective of helping the province earn Rs50 billion annually, creating hundreds of thousands of new job opportunities.

The party leader was speaking to participants at the launch held in Changla Gali on Wednesday.

“The PTI government formed a tourism policy for the first time in the history of the province.” He clarified locals would be given preference for these jobs and road networks would be laid out in tourism-friendly areas. He said facilities would be provided purely on merit and no priority would be given to the likes and dislikes of MPAs or MNAs.

He said K-P has great Buddhist heritage and the provincial government would revamp those sites to attract international tourism. Imran also announced the establishment of three national parks in K-P.

“If Fata becomes part of K-P, promotion of tourism would continue in the same stead for the tribal areas as locals from the region have rendered tremendous sacrifices for the country.”

About the Billion Tree Tsunami, the PTI chief said 250 million saplings will be planted by the end of April. He accused Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif of copying his plantation idea in Punjab.

About the Peshawar bomb blast, he said the political leadership needs to sit across the table and form its next strategy. Referring to statements by some political leaders calling for the resignation of the CM after the bomb blast, he said if people start stepping down after such incidents there would be no one left to replace them.

Earlier, K-P Minister for Tourism Mehmood Khan briefed participants on the new tourism policy.
