Egypt is negotiating with Russia to purchase upgraded Yak-130 fighter jets for military training and military operations.

"Egypt is one of the countries negotiating with Russia on the Yakovlev or Yak-130 planes, a Russian military training aircraft developed by the Yakovlev Aircraft Design Office and belonging to the 4th generation aircraft," the magazine "AirForces Monthly" reported.

Yak-130 is designed to carry out reconnaissance, support and reinforcement missions, thanks to its ability to carry up to 3 tons of rockets and bombs.

Excellent choice to replace the Alpha jets and keep the modernization plan going. Tremendous amount of money being spent with all these acquisitions of late, but they are spending it very smartly, despite the Russian trend which I think is actually a good move now.

@Frogman another shift from a western platform to a Russian one, what think of this one?

The Yak-130 will pay for itself with the money saved from operating heavier aircrafts..because it is more than a trainer..So, it is indeed a smart decision..

And what would really be the equivalent in a western platform anyway?

Maybe a better matchup would be the T-150 itself instead of the the FA-50?

    Nice looking jet.

There are some, but too expansive for the same role and almost same advanced tech.. the Yak has another advantage too.. it can carry some Russian weapons and share them with the Mig-35..

Yup, could also serve as trainers for newbie pilots who will eventually fly the MiGs.
They also still have the L-59s and K-8s and they really should keep the Alphas flying.
