EADS defence unit Cassidian sets up engineering centre in India

European consortium, EADS, has launched a defence sector specific engineering centre in Bangalore, which will be a first operated by a foreign company in India. The centre will be operated by Cassidian, the defence and security division of EADS.

The centre, according to a senior company official, would be a perfect example of the company's commitment to increase its industrial footprint in this rapidly growing country and to create a wide range of opportunities for industrial cooperation.

The official also said that the centre would be a unique project in the world with its major objective being to leverage the vast pool of skilled engineers available in India to develop products fulfilling the specific requirements of the Indian customers and to provide consultancy and other services to the aerospace and defence companies in the country.

By setting up a centre like this in India, the company would not only be taking its relationship with the country a step further, the official said, but would also prepare for future defence programmes.

The new centre is staffed with highly qualified engineers who have undergone extensive training in Germany. The company intends to increase the current number of 60 employees to more than 200 by the end of 2012.
