Militants entrenched in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta have attacked a convoy of civilians trying to exit Ghouta, and shelled the area where their relatives and journalists had been waiting, Russian military said.
The armed groups fired on a civilian convoy of some 300 families, who were attempting to leave Eastern Ghouta via a humanitarian corridor, spokesman for the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria, Major General Vladimir Zolotukhin, told journalists on Thursday. The convoy came under fire just a kilometer away from the exit, where relatives of the Eastern Ghouta residents were waiting with journalists. It was not immediately clear whether there were casualties in the attack, but at least three cars were reportedly destroyed as a result of the shelling.

The militants then opened mortar fire on the exit area. No one was injured in the second attack, as civilians and journalists in the area were all immediately evacuated.

East Ghouta militants have been blocking civilians from leaving the suburb, opening fire on the humanitarian corridor that was established by the Syrian governmental forces and the Russian Center for Reconciliation on February 27. The Russian Defense Ministry has accused the militants of using civilians as a human shield, saying they were sabotaging UN aid efforts.

On Sunday, the militants imposed a curfew and publicly punished civilians for violations in an apparent attempt to prevent them from fleeing Eastern Ghouta, the ministry said. The news, however, did not provoke any reaction in the West, where mainstream media reports and officials in Washington instead stuck to the anti-Russian narrative.

The White House has been accusing Russia of killing civilians in the area and ignoring the conditions of a 30-day humanitarian pause in Syria, which was introduced by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Moscow has described these charges as “false,” and accused the US of hypocrisy.

The Russian military has been demanding that groups occupying Eastern Ghouta allow civilians to flee. On Monday, the militants and their families were offered free passage out of the city, as well as security guarantees, in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.

Assad the alawite by birth not by choice whose wife dresses up like western women is massacring freedom fighters who are shooting at women and children escaping from their TTP alike tribal zone.

Assad obviously has nothing to do with religious Shia community, the fact that he is fighting against American ISIS and Qaeda mercenaries is lighter than skylight as of now. He is an Arab nationalist that's why he considers himself responsible for saving every Syrian citizen regardless of their religion.

@dsr478 brother, if Assad leaves his people into ISIS Qaeda hands, Syrian nation would envy Afghanistans territorial integrity. Americans will establish a Kurdish state in the beginning of removal of Assad, that news state will be a twin of Israel with tens of American bases within. This propaganda war inshallah will end with victory for Syrian nation. Syria was a secular state under Assad not a sectarian one neither a Shia dominated nor Sunni dominated state by government. Their only enemy was Israel in Golant heights

Alawite is not an ethnic group. Assad is ethnically Arab descended from Roman / Byzantine ancestors. Syria was part of Roman / Byzantine empire before Muslim conquest in the 600s. He blue eyes so white man, not like Arabs in Saudi Arabia who don't have blue eyes. Assad is not religious.

We wouldn't have this mess if Assad didn't decide to start destroying his own country. He got too trigger happy and will inshallah pay the price for it.

If Assad is overthrown, I suspect the country will go through something similar to what happened with Afghanistan, with a militant Salafi group taking charge. A Kurdish state won't happen, Turkey would blow it to pieces as would the rest of Syria as soon as one side loses.

I just want this civil war to end and the Muslims of Syria to gin victory over their enemies. Unfortunately, the future seems bleak.

Assad is Russia's dog. To get rid of Assad means war with Russia. You all kiss the white man's arse. When will you fight for freedom?

Once upon a time, I was considering myself a member of Salafi community, since they introduced Israel as the number one enemy. But guess what, they suddenly and openly started to mass murder of Shias. At the best scenario, they were misled. At its worst...... you know what I mean

A question out of my own curiosity, why are Salafi killing Shias? Is that false news by Jewish MSM or a reality that I am afraid the most. Assad whether guilty or a savior is in Syria not like Haadi of Yemen who escaped from his own country. How can we say that Assad is killing Syrian while I see that he is defending Syria?

Most of those terrorists in Al Qaeda and ISIS also Nusra front, are receiving salaries from Israel, why don't you see that?

And please tell me, after tearing Assad and his family apart by those armed militants that are supported by West and Israel, who can push USA out of Syria? You? Us? Dismantled Syrians? At this moment USA has almost 4 or 5 large and medium sized bases within Kurdish and ISIS controlled zones in Deir Al Zor. And the only one that complains is Syrian government with support of Iran and Russia, asking Americans to leave Syrian soil. You try to overthrow Assad, then you have helped Americans to overthrow whole Syria. I wonder if you called Qaeda the Salafi group, I mean seriously man?

Salafi militants kill Shias because they consider them murtads for several reasons, the 3 biggest ones being the fact that the Shia community also massacres the Salafis, the Shias insult the Sahabah (May Allah Be Pleased With Them) and have typically supported those who the Salafi community despises.

The average Salafi doesn't necessarily disagree, they just wouldn't go around smiting them since they see the issue as more complex than that, with bad actions from both sides.

Assad started military campaigns against his own people, that's madness. Can you imagine if the Shah of Iran did the same during 1979, and eventually started flattening major Iranian cities with airstrikes? It's crazy. Assad has literally shot Syria in the stomach.

Assad also receives revenue from Russia, so what's your point?

As I said before, Syria has a bleak future, but it's not anyone's fault other than Assad. He created his bed, now he must lie in it.

I'm not referring to any specific group, I'm saying what I think would happen if Assad was removed from power. That group could be anyone, it's irrelevant to my point. I don't support or care about any terrorist organisations, just the civilians caught up in between.

Kurdistan won't ever be a thing, and the US can get removed from the region like how they were removed from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Americans did that in their civil war. Chinese did that in their civil war. French did that in their civil war. Spanish did that in their civil war. And let's not forget carpet bombing and nuking cities in WW2.

The Americans, Chinese, Spanish and French didn't have the firepower the current Syrian military does. The current Syrian military is turning its own country into rubble with constant airstrikes. If you want to airstrike some militants out in the desert, fine. But why would you airstrike people in Aleppo or Ghoutta? For goodness sake, that's literally digging your own grave.

WW2 was between different countries, it has some logic to it (pound the crap out of the enemy state), but this is literally pointless. Assad has turned his own country from a decent nation to a country worse than Iraq or Palestine. The worst part is he didn't need to, he only added fuel to the fire which made it burn more. Even if he wins, it will be one of the most pyrrhic victories in modern history. He will have to rebuild the country from step 1, and he could have won this conflict without so much violence.

There is ifs and buts in history. The victor is the righteous. The loser is the condemned.
