Most of them were damage due to carelessness. For example the engine oil was required to be changed after 75000 kms vs 120000 kms in GE engine.

Sorry but your information is incorrect.

75k kms is very small distance for them. This is the distance for oil change in case of GE oil change distance is 120k kms.

75k kms are generally achieved between 2 to 3 months.

I was part of supreme court forensic team. So i have seen those things directly.

You are right. 75000 km is nothing for train engines.
At an average speed of 60 kmph , assuming 20 hr daily run , in one day it will run 60x20 = 1200 km.
So 75000 km requires only 75000/1200= 62 days approximately.

My question to those with greater knowledge on this issue is this. Is there a chance that these locomotives can still be salvaged from rotting? What has been the response of the OEM? Are they still willing to fix these locomotives for money, of course? Is it still cost effective to rehabilitate them? If they are fixed, then canthey be used for branch lines, if not the main line service? Might Be ideal for kcr service when it fully kicks in.

Seeking low cost/unproven solutions for virtually every need is bad decision. Transportation services should be spared this nonsense on Public Safety grounds.

GOP should commit to globally renowned companies to fulfill transportation needs across Pakistan at all levels of Public Transport and avoid seeking supposedly cost-effective alternatives for the needful.

To railways defence, at that time no Western country was willing to provide locos to Pakistan as there we announced and unannounced sanction on Pakistan due to Musharraf's military coup.
