Danish Armed Forces adopt Sig P320 X-Carry

As reported last year by our own Matthew Moss, the Danish Army began trials in 2017 to replace the SigP210 which had been in use for over 70 years. Four handguns were being tested: the Canik’s TP9 and TP9SF, Glock’s 17 and 19, SIG Sauer’s P320 full size and compact (which have been adopted by the US Army as the M17 and M18) and Smith & Wesson’s M&P9 2.0 and 2.0 Compact.

Recently, the Danish Armed Forces announced that the Sig P320 X-Carry had been selected to replace the aging P210. The guns were tested by experts from Direct Shooting Weapons (DSV) at HKIC. via drop test, penetration test and precision test. Additional tests consisted of malfunction tests, precision tests, shooting in the dark and field trajectory.

While the Canik TP9SF ran a close second, the ultimate choice was Sig Sauer’s P320 X-Carry

According to the Danish Armed Forces’ website:

The P320 will be supplied in two versions, a standard and a concealed carry version. These will replace all pistols in the Armed Forces, such as the M / 49 which would only carry 8 rounds compated to the 21 rounds of the P320.

Fielding has begun and the new pistol is expected to be full fielded to all units by the end of 2019 with new equipment training to be completed by the Commonwealth DefenseCommand (VFK).

This video from the Danish Defense’s YouTube Channel depicts the testing.

Prior to implementation, there will be training of both selected weapons mechanics and of shootinginstructors. The plan for disbursement of the new gun will be prepared by Joint Defense Command (KSC). Detailed plans for which units will be first to receive the new gun will be compiled at a later date.

The Sig Sauer P320 is expected to be delivered to all units at the end of 2019.
