Oh, all that above is a load of Political stuff!

So the question is: "Could India gain from Scottish Independence?"
Yeah sure thing........India could get cheaper Scotch from an Independent Scotland. While India could export Toddy from Kerala in exchange. The Scotsmen might even give up drinking Scotch after that!!!!!

Seems unlikely in the current scenario.

The new Britain will most likely be recognized as the successor state to Britain, just as the Russian federation was recognized as the successor state to the USSR, and the PRC was recognized as the successor state to the ROC (Republic of China). That's easily possible within the current UN charter.

However the UN charter would need to be amended for any "new" members to enter the P5. Which needs to be supported by all of the P5, and 2/3 of the General Assembly, or it won't happen.

Anything is possible though, so it is surely something to watch. I don't think it would be in the best interests of Scotland to contest the permanent seat, possibly allowing it to pass to another country on the other side of the world.

There's also a question of relevance. The world seems to be moving towards smaller, regional organizations, where the UN is less relevant. SCO, ASEAN, NATO, etc. Within each respective sphere of influence (Asian continent, SE Asia, Europe, etc.), members of the grouping seek legitimacy from those regional organizations, not the UN. Given the UN's increasing dysfunction, I suspect these regional blocs will take on increasing importance, prestige, and relevance as forums for the kind of political legitimacy that the UN used to provide. Interesting times ahead.
