Back in the day, money was not paper let alone digital, but rather metal coins. The short lived modern caliphate was defeated by white people and their technology. During its days, metal coins were minted and used as the currency of exchange. These have been found in Idlib and can be collected, the coins of the final caliphate.

It was a ruled by a caliph and the only Muslim country not dependent on a western country so it was a caliphate.

    Bullshit trolling.

It relied on US dollars to pay it's minions, it got weapons from CIA air drops, it killed more Muslims than anyone else, it never had complete control of any territory (it had no airforce), it was not recognised by 1.5 billion Muslims. You are as legitimate a caliph as Baghdadi.

What are your qualifications to define what a caliphate is?

My definition is a Muslim state rule by a caliphate whose goal is to bring the entire world under Islam. Why do you think Islamic State was such a threat to the west? The entire west fought it for years.

It was self-proclaimed. Not a single state recognized it as a legitimate government. And it had no recognition from the vast majority of Muslims. That would be an essential element. So it was not.

And which state recognized the Rashidun caliphate, the Umayyad caliphate, the Abassid caliphate? They were constantly at war with their neighbors for expansion.

Tens of thousands of Muslims fought to the death defending the Islamic State from the west. That speaks volumes.

There have been many delusional people in history who have claimed to be kings, popes, prophets and emperors. They don't become those things just because they say so.

True, not in this day and age. You think the west would allow another caliph to pop up? Not a chance.

The majority of Muslims did. And so did most other jurisdictions. ISIS may have eventually become a state/caliphate in the future. But it never did.

The west destroyed it with their technology. Or else Islamic State would have conquered the middle east. At its height it spanned the size of Britain.

That is speculation. We can just as easily speculate that ISIS would have destroyed the Middle East, which in my opinion, is more likely to have happened.
