COAS vows to take war on terror to logical conclusion
    * Major reshuffle, transfers, postings and promotions on the cards in army
    [IMG]
ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that the war on terror will continue with focused approach in order to take the military operation to its logical conclusion.

"We will continue to move ahead of the gains already made so far," the army chief said while speaking to troops in North Waziristan during his first visit to field formations after taking over the command of the Pakistan Army.

Paying tribute to brave tribes, officers and men of the army, Frontier Corps, Levies and the police, General Bajwa vowed that no fleeing terrorist would ever be allowed to return. He said that defence and security of Pakistan against external and internal threats would remain his ultimate objective as the COAS.

He stressed the need for expediting the pace of raising of new FC wings to enhance an effective Pakistan-Afghan border management.

He said the temporarily displaced persons' (TDPs) return should be completed within the stipulated time, and they should be assisted in all ways to resettle respectfully.

Earlier, the COAS visited the Corps Headquarters Peshawar, where he was given a detailed briefing on the prevailing security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA and Malakand Division, ongoing stabilisation and combing operations, progress on the return of TDPs and continuing development work.

Meanwhile, defence sources said that the new COAS would soon announce major reshuffles and make transfers, postings and promotions, as the important office of the chief of general staff is still vacant following the promotion and appointment of General Zubair Mehmood Hayat as the chairman joint chiefs of staff committee (CJCSC).

The new inspector general of training and evolution would also be appointed, a post previously held by General Bajwa himself.

Sources said that four three star generals - Lieutenant General Najeeb, Lieutenant General Wajid, Lieutenant General Ashfaq Nadeem and Lieutenant General Javed Iqbal Ramday - had been superseded due to the appointment of General Bajwa as the army chief. Therefore, they will most likely follow the tradition of the army and leave their responsibilities. However, military sources said it was not a hard and fast rule, so a superseded general could continue rendering service if he wanted to.

Sources said that some corps commanders would also be changed, while the new Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general would also be appointed.

The current ISI DG, Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, may be given a corps, they said, adding that ISPR DG Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa was also a strong candidate.

I wish him best of luck but a logical conclusion is a far cry right now. With extremism which breeds the ideology leading to the creation of militants group is pretty much intact and inseparable. Unless, military and civil government don't establish their long lost writ on declaring Jihad and the religious institutions are not altered to cooperate on this, there's not much light at the end of the tunnel. Despite reduction in terror incident, Pakistan continues to become a mini jail with barriers, pass through gates, barbed wires continue to pop up every here and there. Peace is still a long journey.

Now that's an interesting choice for Corps Commander. An officer with most part of service spent in non-combat acitivities (111,Preisent's Mil Sec, ISPR). Gen Rizwan, on the other hand, is ideal candidate for next COAS, looking at his professionalism,

We are so addicted to General Raheel that the statement of other Generals don't feel like as important as his.

I don't know if its just me or my sheer respect for the retired General that my heart is still awaiting for his clarification to stamp the intentions expressed by General Bajwa.

Yeah will take some time and I do hope General Bajwa will outperform Raheel and annihilate this menance of terrorism from the Land of the pure for once and for all

I think the article is quoting current DG ISPR for position of DG ISI and not for a corps commander position?

Exactly... I see these mullahs with big bags travelling from one mosque to other under the title of tabligh, I am terrified by them...they don't have any purpose... And their looks are horrifying and I had asked some people they told me they are lashkar e jhangvi members... Where can I report such people? Also I see a lot of Pakistanis changing their dps to ISIS flag they should also be picked up by army...Facebook can alone be solution to sack a lot of potential terrorists and people who support terrorists morally..

If Gen Rizwan's given a corps, then the position of DG ISI would go vacant, an alternative choice is Gen Bajwa being given a Corps and appointment of new DG ISPR

Our religious institutions are guardians of divine knowledge which is what truly differentiates us from animals. Alhamdolillah Jihad is here to stay forever per the words of our Holy Prophet Peace be upon him. What is needed is clear differentiation of Jihad from genocide, murder, and Fitna in general. The need of the hour is to engage religious scholars in finding solutions to our problems: what to do when people calling themselves Muslims enter mosques and kill people performing prayers? But instead of engagement, I see neo-liberals spewing forth hate. Is this what education taught you? To exclude, marginalize, and slander those who want to follow Islam as it was revealed by the Creator Allah the Almighty to His last prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him? If that is so, you need to be re-educated.

Relax. The 'mullahs' with bags are sincere Muslims who want to spread the Word of God everywhere, starting with re-iterating the message with fellow Muslims. I am personally NOT a fan of ISIS but since the phenomenon emerged after I came to Australia, I never had the chance to seek a ruling from valid scholars on the topic. The core problem which Lashkar-e-Jhangvi wants to address is a real problem. Unfortunately, these people have adopted the wrong methods of seeking the solution. At this point, no one is even willing to listen to them to understand the problem.

A very frightening picture indeed. I hope the new COAS cracks down hard on jihadi fundamentalists wherever they may be found. Social media should also be scrutinized for such people.
USA has cought many extremists using their social media postings, I hope Pakistan follows the same.
