Nope it's not nationalistic rhetoric(actually we are quite mild). Its actually pragmatism/common sense. We can't let our defence at the hands/mercy of others. Only a fool will say such a thing. We should always maintain a credible military not only to deter foreign ones, but to also to maintain an edge for our own security and military/aerospace industry as well. You should know that our defence industry is also a huge employer and plays a major role in our economy/industry as well, without talking about the multiplier effects this has on other industries in our economy and also the revenue we earn from exports/sales. So don't worry our about our economy, we are doing just fine actually.The UK politician are practical, with brexit and a shrinking UK economy. It is the correct decision to cut down on defense budget. We got UK nationalist beating the drum of increasing UK military expenditures against imaginary threat which never threaten UK mainland.
