China spends CNY 1750 billion / $270 billion in R&D in 2017, accounting for 2.12% of GDP

    China spends CNY 1750 billion / $270 billion in R&D in 2017, accounting for 2.12% of GDP, says by NBS (National Bureau of Statistics, China) in a recent news release.

    $270 billion in R&D alone, that's even much larger than the whole GDP of some neighboring country. :-)

      根据科技综合统计年快报初步测算结果,2017年我国研发经费投入总量为17500亿元,比上年增长11.6%,增速较上年提高1个百分点。研发经费投入强度(研发经费与国内生产总值之比)为2.12%,较上年提高0.01个百分点。

      分研发活动类型看,2017年我国基础研究经费为920亿元,比上年增长11.8%;基础研究占研发经费的比重为5.3%,较上年提高0.1个百分点。

      分研发活动主体看,2017年企业研发经费为13733亿元,比上年增长13.1%,连续2年实现两位数增长;政府属研究机构和高等学校研发经费分别为2418.4亿元和1127.7亿元,分别比上年增长7%和5.2%。

    Yes, need more. I would like it to at least double in the near future. But, quality must be aimed at, not quantity. Natural sciences must be favored in place of social sciences. The educated overseas compatriots must be the first priority to recruit rather than others.
