China executes two Muslims for pre-Olympics attack - Telegraph

China has executed two Muslim separatists who were convicted of attacking a police station in the country's restive northwest in the run up to the opening of last summer's Olympic Games in Beijing.

The attack in the Silk Road city of Kashgar in the far northwestern province of Xinjiang left 17 dead, including many policemen, and prompted a major security crackdown with armoured cars being deployed outside Beijing's Bird's Nest stadium.

Abdurahman Azat, 34, and Kurbanjan Hemit, 29, were both members of China's Uighur minority, a Turkic ethnic group which the Chinese government has said it considers a "major threat" to stability.

The two men rammed into a large group of police while they were out on a morning training run on Aug 4 2008, before following up with explosives, a home-made gun and knives, state-run media reported at the time.

According to an official report, the attack was part of a plan to "sabotage the Beijing Olympic Games", although Kashgar is some 2,500 miles from Beijing and no attacks were carried out in the capital.

The news of the executions, which are carried out in China by lethal injection or a bullet to the head, was read out in front of 4,000 officials and Kashgar residents in a local stadium.

The Uighur minority accounts for almost half of Xinjiang's population of 20 million. Many resent control from Beijing which this year will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the entry of the People's Liberation Army into the province.

Already the Chinese government has warned it fears further terrorist attacks in the run up to the anniversary in October.

A spokesman for the Europe-based World Uyghur Congress, said the two men had not received fair treatment, alleging that Hemit had been badly beaten while in custody and was unable to walk during his trial.

"There was no chance for their families to see them, and no lawyer at all," said Dilxat Raxit, adding that the bodies of the executed men had not been returned to their families.

Yes I knew, I knew, Indian Hindutva newspapers will exploit this issue and I have been waiting for that. Well, why should we see those two guys by their religious identities?

Just look at the headline of the Hindutva newspaper. It says "China executes two Muslims", as if China executed them because they were Muslims. Let not Hindutva newspaper cash this incident.

The police who arrested those two guys were Muslims too, why Indian newspaper did not say that? Why not two criminals instead of Muslims?

Do not get victimized by such distorted news reports.

BBC NEWS | Asia-Pacific | China executes Uighur 'militants'

China says it has executed two ethnic Uighur Muslims, sentenced to death last year on terror-related offences.

The pair were found guilty of killing 17 policemen in an attack in the western region of Xinjiang, four days before the Beijing Olympics in August.

The run-up to the Games was marked by an apparent resurgence in militancy among Uighurs, some of whom have been seeking independence for Xinjiang.

Xinjiang is home to more than eight million Uighur Muslims.

China charges that armed Uighur separatists have been waging war against the state for many years.

But human rights groups accuse China of exaggerating this threat in order to suppress the local population.

Attackers named

The assault on the police barracks in the city of Kashgar was one of the most serious attacks on Chinese security forces for many years.

China says that two local men detonated explosives and drove a stolen truck into a group of police officers who were out jogging.

Now, China says that the two attackers - who have been named as 34-year-old Abdurahman Azat and 29-year-old Kurbanjan Hemit - have been executed.

The official Xinhua news agency reports that news of the two men's execution was broken before a crowd of 4,000 officials and residents at a stadium in Kashgar.

China has not said exactly where or how the two men were killed.

" CHINA'S UIGHURS
Ethnically Turkic Muslims, mainly in Xinjiang
Made bid for independent state in 1940s
Sporadic violence in Xinjiang since 1991
Uighurs worried about Chinese immigration and erosion of traditional culture "

Uighurs and chinese are two nations, Uighurs must get their own 'land of the pure'. I hope there's support for this atleast here :)

My post shall likely be the last. Virtually all will let this story die. Whether they should or not is entirely upon the conscience of each but I'll shed no tears for these worthless fcuks whom the PRC have executed if, in fact, they committed such dastardly deeds.

However, that Pakistanis will feel the same as myself may not stem for the same reasons. Other motivations likely take precedent.

In any case, we'll see as this certainly is yet another reminder that all is not, hmmmm...kosher? in the PRC's wild west.

When, When will we have the same courage as China, to distinguish between religion and crime.

Today we do not know the difference - we have so many that still seek to protect the ideology that creates these criminals.

Pakistanis!! Below is how it's done - it's extremely effective, BTW notice what the article says Iran's Shariah laws deal with -- Now you will note that exactly what the Taliban and the so caled "nationalists" are involved with in Pakistan, are dealt with Shariah in a appropriate manner - whereas in Pakistan Shariah for the promotion of mysogyny - you judge for yourself

Iran hangs three over mosque bombing
Updated at: 0810 PST, Saturday, April 11, 2009
TEHRAN: Iran executed on Friday three people convicted of being involved in the bombing of a mosque which killed 14 Iranians in the southern city of Shiraz in 2007, the official news agency reported.

Tehran had accused the United States of arming and training those behind the blast and said Britain and Israel were involved in the bombing, which also injured 200 people.

Washington and London deny Tehran's accusations.

It said the three were sentenced to death in November. Their sentences were upheld by Iran's Supreme Court.

A little-known Iranian Sunni Muslim dissident group had in June claimed responsibility for the blast.

Under Iran's sharia law armed robbery, murder, adultery, drug smuggling and involvement in "terrorist acts" are punishable by death.

Poor Sharvan, not a person, just an Indian.

Captian, the religion of this criminals is mentioned because they, the criminals, claim religion as their MOTIVATION for the crimes and as JUSTIFICATION of their crimes.

Pleae don't be counted among those who deny that a particular understanding of Islam is a problem not just for the world but for us, the real Muslims because these criminals paint us in unfavorable terms in the minds of the public - yes, it may be unfair, but it is fact and we must be in the lead in the effort to clearf rthe name of Islam and muslims by pointing to these radical criminals who use Islam as their motivation and justification for crime.
