China did not test hypersonic nuclear missile, foreign ministry says
  • China tested a space vehicle for possible reuse, not a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile as reported by the Financial Times, ministry says
  • Analysts blame speculations over the ‘China threat’ on a lack of transparency, while playing down chances Beijing will launch nuclear weapons into space

China has denied reports that it recently tested a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile, saying it was only carrying out routine test flights in a bid to recycle spacecraft to reduce exploration costs.
“This was a routine test of a space vehicle to verify the technology of their reusability,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a regular briefing in Beijing on Monday.
The launched object “was not a missile” with a military purpose, but “a space vehicle” for civilian aims, he emphasised.

The fire-breathing dragon emerges.😨:yahoo:

China tested a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile in August that circled the globe before speeding towards its target,

“We have no idea how they did this,” said a fourth person.

Last month, Frank Kendall, US air force secretary, hinted that Beijing was developing a new weapon. He said China had made huge advances, including the “potential for global strikes . . . from space”.

Zhao Lijian is a famous troll. He’s literally trolling. China did test this weapon and he’s making it sound like it was a Disney ride.

Wouldn't be sure about that.

Here are some facts: July a private Chinese space company Interstellar Glory tested a solid fueled launch vehicle (Hyperbola-1) carrying an unknown payload that circled the globe in a highly elliptical 200 km altitude orbit, then deorbited, hit Antarctica and disintegrated.

You can fill in the details, like... Why solid fueled launch vehicle when liquid has higher throw weight and control, but solid is better for sil -er, I mean, "wind turbine"?

I oppose any conspiracy theory.
If we have no evidence, we should believe information from formal channels.

Technically to say hypersonic space vehicle is no different than hypersonic missile. Maybe more sophisticate and dangerous.

Troll or not, he's trying to deny what happened. Just like China's anti satellite weaponry. Who do you think revealed it? The U.S. revealed it. China didn't say anything. They won't say anything on this either because it would definitely give justification for U.S. to start focusing on space weaponry. And also why the U.S. revealed this test as well. Also why China tried to disguise it on a Long March rocket instead of lets say a DF ballistic missile. The U.S. was watching.

:china:

The newspaper cited five American officials who said China had launched a long-range rocket that deployed a hypersonic glide vehicle that circled the earth in a low orbit before returning to a target area in China,

"What China tested was an orbital bombardment system,"

"It will give the Chinese the ability to conduct a nuclear strike anywhere in the world without warning," said Ganyard.

"They now have a weapon that we don't have, we can't defend against, we can't even see. So, we are at a strategic disadvantage," he said.

US knows and realizes that it has fallen behind China in the Tech race. It would be very difficult for the US to catch up with China now. It is very well known that China can do things at a fraction of the cost that of the US. US was always was betting on being ahead in the Tech not cost. Now both Tech and cost advantage are with China.

In a test this past August, according to an article in last weekend’s Financial Times, this missile flew at “hypersonic” speeds in a low orbit all the way around the globe. Toward the end of the flight, it released a vehicle (capable of containing a nuclear warhead), which then glided toward its target. Such a missile could approach the United States not just from the north—as normal ballistic missiles would—but from the east, west, or south. It would thus evade our warning radars and, as one official put it, “negate” our missile-defense systems.

Holy mother of God. 😨

The Chinese military conducted two hypersonic weapons tests over the summer,

On July 27 the Chinese military launched a rocket that used a “fractional orbital bombardment” system to propel a nuclear-capable “hypersonic glide vehicle” around the earth for the first time, according to four people familiar with US intelligence assessments.

The Financial Times this week reported that the first test was in August, rather than at the end of July. China subsequently conducted a second hypersonic test on August 13, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Three people familiar with the first test in July said it stunned the Pentagon and US intelligence because China managed to demonstrate a brand new weapons capability, although they declined to elaborate on the details.

One person said government scientists were struggling to understand the capability, which the US does not currently possess, adding that China’s achievement appeared “to defy the laws of physics”.

You're right I am 100% sure Zhao Lijian speaks the truth: It's a sat-like orbital device plus hypersonic vehicle, not a missile, and absolutely not nuclear.
