China builds Space Academy & Satellite Ground station in Sri Lanka

The foundation stone for the proposed “Space Academy” of SupremeSAT was laid at the Kandy BOI zone yesterday by visiting Vice Minister of Industries and Information Technology, People’s Republic of China, Chen Qiufa together with top Chinese executives.

The project is a joint venture between SupremeSAT (Pvt) Ltd - The satellite operator of Sri Lanka, in partnership with China Greatwall Industry Corporation and Sino Satellite Communications Company Ltd. The total investment would be around US $ 60 million. This is also the first Chinese investment for the Kandy district.

The Academy would offer “On the Job” Training for Sri Lankans who could interact with the already co-branded satellites of SupremeSAT/Chinasatcom as a preparatory measure to be geared to handle the fully owned satellite of SupremeSAT which will be launched in December 2015.

“This investment would give confidence to other private sector companies in the world to invest in Sri Lanka,” said R. M. Manivannan, Chairman of the SupremeSAT. The construction of the facility would be done in an accelerated manner with an ambitious plan for completion within six months to keep in line with the growing satellite business of both SupremeSAT and China Greatwall Industry Corporation.

Keep up the good work. I have confidence in Sri Lanka will become the jewel of South Asia if not the whole Asia.

China lack the satellite ground station in foreign, So, every time we launch spacecraft and space station, we have to depend on Yuan Wang class tracking ship, although they are good, having more transmitter in friend countries is better for us!

Truly a sad day. India has truly lost an ally in Sri Lanka....The dragon chased and won this game it seems....time to revert to covert tactics and start letting loose LTTE assassination squads haha....

    Unless you aren't sarcastic.

Sri Lanka was never India's ally.

Besides China is more welcome in SL , because of pace at which Chinese complete the projects.

India is more than capable of negating China, China want's to do srilanka India's cuba, I have confidence in In and IN will rule Indian ocean for the decades to come.
India is in an advantageous position compared to China, China is surrounded by nations which are hostile towards it and there a ring emerging around china may be a military alliance on the cards. Where as India's situation is completely different, We do have two hostile neighbors at our north and west but with infrastructure and war preparedness for a defensive battle India can withstand pressure. Any pressure from the tiny Island called Srilanka can be negated within hours.
