China agrees to resume work on Nandipur power project

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has succeeded in persuading Dong Fong Electricity Company of China to resume work on Nandipur power project.
According to an official handout issued from Lahore, Chairman Dong Fong Electricity Company, Si Zefu after a lengthy meeting with Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif directed his engineers to reach Pakistan within three days and restart work on Nandipur power project. Nandipur power project has the capacity of generating 450 megawatt electricity.
It may be mentioned that due to undue delay by PPP government, the Chinese experts had returned to their country while machinery for the project worth millions of rupees was rusting at Karachi port.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has been strongly criticising the federal government over non-implementation of the project. He was of the view that this project of national importance had become victim to the greed of a Minister of PPP. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif in his speeches during election campaign had promised that PML-N on coming into power will restart this project.
Chinese energy experts also attended the meeting. Chairman Dong Fong Electricity Company Si Zefu said that due to delay in Nandipur power project, irreparable loss was caused to both the countries. He expressed his happiness that new Pakistani government is taking extraordinary interest in this project. The Chairman said that during a meeting with President Zardari in June 2011, he had informed him about the fate of the project but the meeting remained unfruitful.
The Chief Minister in his address said that the previous government created hindrance in this power project at a time when Pakistan was facing severe loadshedding and every megawatt was of great importance. He said had this project completed two and a half years ago as per schedule, the people of Punjab would have gotten relief from loadshedding to some extent. Shahbaz Sharif thanked Almighty Allah for providing a chance to PML-N government to restart this project. He assured the Chinese company of providing a conducive atmosphere for carrying out work. He also assured that neither the present Pakistani government will demand any commission nor create any hindrance in execution of the project. He said that what happened to Nandipur power project is a tragic story.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif spent a very busy day in Beijing today. Besides meetings with Chinese investors regarding infrastructure and energy sector, he also visited Chinese factories.

It is so sad to see that all of the important projects were delayed not because of financial constraints but pure corruption and incompetence of PPP government.
