Air Chief Marshal Anwar Shamim

01 Oct, 1931 marks the date of birth of a highly decorated and acknowledged professional officer of PAF, Air Chief Marshal Anwar Shamim, whose contributions were acknowledged both at national and international levels. Not only did he receive an SJ for his gallantry, he was also the proud recipient of NI (M), HI (M), and SI (M). His foreign decorations included Al Istiqlal from Royal Jordanian Government; and Legion of Merit from the United States of America.

ACM Shamim was the 10th Chief of PAF and his notable contributions included the induction of the state-of-the-art F-16s, the acquisition of A-5s, and the creation of three Regional Air Commands resulting in efficient conduct of Air Operations as well as synergy of land-air & naval-air operations.

He also instituted a system of annual operational exercises like
‘Exercise Jet Stream’ to enhance PAF’s combat readiness.

ACM Anwar Shamim also served at various Command and Staff appointments, which included Deputy Director Operations at AHQ, Chief Instructor at the prestigious FLS (Fighter Leaders’ School), and Director Projects at AHQ.

During the Indo-Pak War of 1965, Wg Cdr Shamim was commanding No 33 Fighter Wing at Sargodha. He not only actively participated in the Air Operations during the war; but also played a key role in honing the skills of select group of fighter pilots under his command. In 1968, he proceeded to Jordan on deputation and served the Royal Jordanian Air Force as Air Adviser to His Majesty King Hussain Bin Talal for two years. During his service at Jordan, he played a key role in reforming the Jordanian Air Force. During Indo-Pak War in 1971, he was commanding Sakesar Air Base and was responsible for the Air Defence of aerial frontiers of northern sector of Pakistan.

ACM Anwar Shamim's services for PAF will always be remembered.

Yes ! Deeply corrupt PAF Chief.
That's may be because of nuclear program...was he appointed ambassador in USA?
He sold his house in USA and returned.
Any way, I remember, I was at NED in 80's, there were reports he sent 130 to bring his wife's necklace.
Did zardari learned from him? Using official aircrafts to cargo his favorite subzi? Bhindi!

Death anniversary of Legendary Air Marshal Malik Nur Khan Awan [22 February 1923 – 15 December 2011]
Air Marshal Nur Khan Awan HJ,HQA, HS, SPk, SQA, an ultimate Legendary C-in C, Icon Leader & A Fearless Commander who led from the front.

The list of the great icons and legacies of Pakistan cannot be completed without the name of Air Marshal (Retd) Nur Khan. However, we Pakistanis lost this legendry icon on the December 15, 2011 when he left for his final resting place.

His services as a military man, especially during the 1965 Pakistan-India war, can never be forgotten as well as his services to raising the name of Pakistan at the international level in sports such as Squash, Hockey and Cricket and raising the status of PIA to the Best Airline in the world. He was a man of steel, a man of iron will who altered the course of everything of which he was given authority, in the positive direction.
