Foreign direct investment in 2007 amounted to $ 19 billion (NIS 66.5 billion). This is the all-time high since the Central Bureau of Statistics began measuring these investments in 1995. The highest level recorded by 2017 was in 2006, when direct investment totaled more than $ 14 billion.

Foreign direct investment has far-reaching importance for the economy's growth and development, since it is an active investment in which the investor acquires a company. This is in contrast to an indirect investment, which means passive investment, such as investment in securities without affecting the company that issued the securities.

The Central Bureau of Statistics also reports that in the last quarter of 2017, most of the investments reached $ 12 billion. One of the deals is the technology giant Intel, which has already significantly increased its investments in the plant in Kiryat Gat (and is expected to increase significantly even more soon), an investment that was recorded at the end of last year.

Yesterday, Calcalist revealed that in 2017 there was a sharp 17% jump in inter-company purchases by foreign companies in Israel, reaching $ 2.45 billion. The data also show that according to the target set by the Ministry of Economy, Israeli exports of goods and services crossed the threshold of $ 100 billion to $ 102 million.
