India, Bangladesh to enhance maritime ties

India will join Bangladesh to celebrate 100 years of 'Bangabandhu,' the founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in 2020 and in 2021, an International Fleet Review.

It will mark 50 years of the Liberation of Bangladesh.

Navy chief Admiral Karambir Singh is on a visit to Dhaka where issues regarding security and maritime activities will be discussed, according to a media report.

Joint boat expedition discussed; voyage of Mukti Jodha to be retraced

A proposal regarding a joint boat expedition by veterans from both India and Bangladesh is being discussed.

The voyage of Mukti Jodha from Khulna to Hoshangabad during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 will be retraced during this expedition.

Before the Liberation war of 1971, Mukti Bahini from India launched attacks on Pakistan Navy vessels along Mongla, Chittagong and other areas in East Pakistan.

Admiral Singh's visit to Bangladesh is intended to enhance maritime relations between the two bilateral countries, the Navy said.

Proposal to bring Bangladesh into India's coastal radar chain network discussed

Proposal to bring Bangladesh into India's coastal radar chain network, which already several countries have joined would be among the top discussions.

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) team went there recently and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two countries. According to the sources, it could be signed in the next high-level bilateral visit.

CDDL to build six frigates; India offering about 500 million dollar line of credit

The Chittagong Dry Dock Limited aims to build six frigates for which India has offered to build some under 500 million dollar line of credit, in order to boost its 'Make in India' initiative. Some frigates would also be built locally.

The two navies, this year will hold their second patrol and first bilateral naval exercise. Bangladesh, which is currently the vice-chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) is slated to chair it in 2021.

The Navy imparts training to Bangladesh at all levels and also provides assistance to hydrography, as part of its foreign co-operation initiatives.

Yet, with all these, India’s concern: Dhaka's expanding defence cooperation with China.

Despite these engagements, what remains a concern for India is the issue of fishermen and Dhaka's expanding defence cooperation with China.

If the frigates are made at chittagong dry Dock and India provides credit how does that boost made in India?
This is Indias way obtaining any Chinese origin technical methods. We must not take the credit.

India has been begging us to utilise the $500 million defence credit for the last half a decade. We dish out MoUs like confetti.
Despite the Indian media wetting itself, India won't even get to supply anchors for the frigates.

Offering and accepting are two different things.

IF Bangladesh takes india Credit offer, almost guarranteed it will be Indian design
LOL...the most they might get out of our shipyards are a few patrol boats.

Why India do not cancel this $500 million loan? They are scaling back their naval modernization program due to fund shortage, yet pressing repeatedly Bangladesh to take this loan for many years. Isn't the signal from unwilling Bangladesh is clear?

India is trying to counter Chinese contributions in building warships in BD by giving something awkward offer not very clearly understood.

The $500M credit offer seems vague! What are the specifications and conditions of the offer? And what advanced tech can India offer that China & West doesn't already have. I doubt BN would be interested in out of the world tech of "Shiva Linga" class or whatever they call it.
Finally, how does building 6 frigates in CDDL boost make in India initiative?
If, they are trying to counter the Chinese influence I think they should try harder. Maybe, just give us the money as gift unconditionally, about $5B would suffice!

5 billion unconditional no strings attached seems more reasonable.

These Sanghis are hilarious. They want us to share naval intelligence against the Chinese (submarines specifically). Fat chance Rajoo.

Like you said - patrol boat is maximum JV possibility. Neither Sanghi money nor Sanghi design is welcome. We can sign all the MOU's you want....

The Navy imparts training to Bangladesh at all levels and also provides assistance to hydrography, as part of its foreign co-operation initiatives.
Where do these Sanghis get to claim this as lording over us? We train their idiots as much as they train ours. But this is mostly limited to theory and high level ideas. Our naval weapons suites, sensors and tactical paradigm is different from their's by a mile and will never be discussed with them. Fodder for Indian Sanghi media, as I always say...

For a country where they buy one Hilsa fish and divide it among six families (like divvying up Qurbani meat) how would one imagine giving us $5 Billion? The little Sanghi kanjooses would get heart attack at the thought.

Of course they wouldn't give it to us. But as I was saying, if they seriously want to counter Chinese influence the start should at least be unconditional $5B. We can think what to do after that!

We heard that 500 million dollar credit will be used for coastal surveillance sensors and radars. Now that we see this news from Indian source that means that’s not going to happen and neither will this deal go through. Indians are asking Bangladesh to relax it’s specifications requirements so that Indian companies can participate in arms tenders... funny situation really

Sarcasm - Indians talk about themselves about being a economic superpower. What's 5 billion usd to an economic super power?
