BSF jawan, civilian killed; 13 injured in 2 blasts in J&K

SRINAGAR, Aug 25: A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and a civilian were killed and 13 others injured in two separate grenade blasts in Kashmir today.

Police said a BSF party had gone for purchasing in the Jehlum Market in the afternoon where they were attacked by militants with a grenade.

Police said two civilians identified as Abdul Ghani Gojri, 24, son of Mohammad Ahsan of Ganaipora Handwara in district Kupwara - a sales man at a local shop died, while another civilian Habib Dar son of Mukhtair of Delina Baramulla was injured.

Two BSF personnel identified as Hawaldar U Halder of 9th battalion BSF and Naresh Kumar were injured. Both of them were shifted to Baramulla District Hospital. Critically injured, Hawaldar Naresh Kumar was removed to 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar where he succumbed to injuries.

In another grenade blast at Batamaloo, atleast 11 persons were injured when unidentified militants lobbed a grenade on a police gypsy near Batamaloo Bus Stand today.

The grenade missed the intended target and exploded on road resulting in injuries to 11 civilians. They have been removed to SMHS hospital for treatment.

Those injured have been identified as Muhammad Maqbool Malik of Kupwara, Manzoor Ahmad Wani of Latur masjid Safa Kadal, Javed Malik of Hawal, Ali Muhammad of Tral, Javed Ahmad Bhat of Noorbagh Srinagar, Ghulam Nabi Bhat of PC Depot Srinagar, Mansoor Ahmad of Batamaloo, Firdous Ahmad of Bandipora, Shabir Ahmad of Illahi Bagh, Srinagar, Abdul Majid, Iqbal Abad of Bemina and Jana of Kreer Pattan.

Meanwhile, police said during digging a drain at village Bugroo in Central district of Budgam a live grenade was recovered. The labourers called the police and handed over the grenade to them. The grenade was destroyed by BD Squad without causing any loss of life or damage.
