Bangladesh is included on the list of world’s safe countries and in terms of individual security it stands ahead of Australia, the USA, Italy, France and India.

According to sources, a different picture has emerged amid the uproar following the security alert issued by the western embassies over the alleged threat to security in Bangladesh.Interestingly, Bangladesh is included on the list of the apparently safe countries of the world prepared by the western nations taking into consideration the security issue.

Australia has postponed the visit of its cricket team to Bangladesh on security grounds, but its department of foreign affairs and trade in its latest travel advice has not asked Australian citizens to refrain from coming to Bangladesh. Rather, such travel restriction upon Australian nationals persists on visit to 13 countries such as Afghanistan, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Iraq, Libya, Mali, Niger, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

As regards the visit to less risky 17 countries including Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran and Lebanon, the advice for the Australians is “Reconsider your need to travel.”Meanwhile, in respect of individual security, the position of Bangladesh is 30th in the world. In this regard, Australia, the United States, Italy, France and India stand behind Bangladesh, according to renowned US survey organisation Gallup.

The Gallup report titled “The World Law and Order Index 2015” was published on September 24 this year. Singapore is at the top scoring 89 in the survey while the score of Bangladesh, Japan and New Zealand is 78.

The USA and Australia are placed at number 38 and 39 respectively and their score is 77. The score of France placed at number 44 is 75, that of Italy standing at number 63 is 71 and India listed at number 77 scored 67.

According to information available from the US state department, at present there is “Travel Warning” about 39 countries and “Travel Alert” about 6 countries. Bangladesh is out of both. The United Kingdom advised its citizens on Thursday to remain alert as there is high security risk in Bangladesh.

However, a four-member British parliamentary delegation smoothly concluded their visit to Bangladesh last week. Meanwhile, the security alert issued by the Italian embassy on September 30 was withdrawn on October 1.

The ambassador of an Arab country said on Thursday there is no security threat in Bangladesh. This country is safer than many states of the world.

Nobody is disputing that Bangladesh is a reasonably safe place for individual travel. The problem is IS claiming responsibility for the attacks on foreigners and promising more such attacks. The best way to make your case would be to highlight what transpired in those cases. The Bangladesh government disputed the IS claim, I am not aware of any new developments on that issue. Can you please tell us what happened to the probe on the killings of the foreigners? Have they been to establish who was behind the killings?

Good going . If riots & local disturbances are curbed bangladesh will prosper economically. Too much confrontational politics is nothing but disgusting nuisance. Hmm india can expect bangladesh to give some competition in texttile exports.

Yes, Jamaat are known trouble makers. But tell me something, could there be any possible nexus between IS and Jamaat groups? After all, one simply needs to claim that they are IS franchise in xyz country nowadays. I don't mean to question your response, just that IS has changed the way we look at these organizations. They will not be able to trace any financial support etc from abroad, like it used to be in the case of Al Qaida.

Its a messed up scenario. JeI as an organization didnt establish any link with ISIS. But we had already other Islamists groups wanted to establish their own versions of Islam through terror. Their supporters may do things sometimes and someone starts to claim that its done by ISIS. JeI and other Islamists parties whom wanted to establish their own versions of Islamic law through ballot, some of their disciples can do things on their own too. Apart from save the war criminals and demand of fresh election, some neo Islamists following IS development may also do things on their own. Like killing bloggers, accusing them of insulting Islam.

This is a tough one, you know. What these people are looking for is that foreigners get scared and stop visiting countries where they have targeted them. That plays right into their hands. Tunisia and Egypt have suffered in recent times. I remember going on a holiday after the Mumbai attack - their were hardly any foreign tourists. And yet, one cannot blame the foreign governments for issuing travel advisories - after all, they are responsible for the safety of their citizens. I think a balanced approach would involve not cancelling individual tourist and business trips, but avoiding highly visible events till the situation is clear. The Australian team coming right now might be a magnet for trouble. Bangladeshi government has to crack down and sweep the house clean, and then normal service can resume in a few months.

We are all with you on this one, bro.

Bangladesh is safer than Australia. Maybe we should just cancel any trip there due to security concern.
