If we wait till 1.2 billion Indian get vaccinated , millions of us would be already dead. However after getting other vaccines , I hope we no longer need Indian help. India is such entity who give words and later break it. Will Bangladesh govt learn this leson? I hope so.

If now BNP would be in power , BAL would shout that BNP is anti Indian govt , so India blocked vaccine export. Now the pro India govt BAL realize that , does not matter who is in power , India is neve a friend , but only used Bangladesh since 50 years.

All inimical behaviour of India are eye opener , specially while pro Indian govt is in power.
It was India that promised to supply us the vaccine. But, it has now turned around. The GoB must think over its relationship with India. India cannot be depended. It has a flip flop nature.

Neela Akash dada,

The world does not need fake Indian vaccines. Every day new cases of corona in India already exceeded 1 lakh, if I am not wrong. So, the Indian vaccine is not effective.

I dont know if you are a troll but if you are a serious poster, want to share my perspective with you. Only 10% of all Indians have been vaccinated (and only 1% have got both doses.) The other 90% are sitting ducks. Thats why more than 3 lakh are testing positive everyday

For those who have taken both doses, positivity is only 0.04% or so. For those who have taken only 1, a bit higher.

Indian Vax taken has two effects:

1. It reduces the chances of infection
2. If still you get infected it is less serious than vaccinated.

Nonetheless BD and any other country for that matter has a right to decide whether Indian Vax are any good at all. Anyway BD has to decide what is available and what it wants to take.

Best Regards

Hmmmm.

Much as I appreciate China's generous offer, I would stay away from China's Sinopharm vaccine due to low relative efficacy.

BD already has the AstraZeneca vaccine and just also needs to procure maybe the Sputnik vaccine which is also very effective.

Once China has developed a better vaccine, then sure BD should procure them if available.
We should get all the vaccines we can get. We should try to do the Sputnik deal with Russia as well as get all the vaccines China is willing to give. As long as the vaccines deal with the main problems like deaths and hospitalisation, it is good. No absolute need for high efficacy.

Best possible way would be to get rights to manufacture Russian Sputnik as has been apparently offered. That way, we don't need to rely on other countries, especially one that is as poor as ours and have far worse covid situation where they don't even have remotely enough for themselves.

We can understand and accept this position, but Indian govt. should have clarified this position clearly in the last year. Instead they repeatedly assured Bangladesh of supplying vaccine on priority basis, but when time came to honor it's promise, it make a U-tern in accordance with it's reputation. We only blame our govt. for trusting India blindly despite they experienced first hand of this kind of Indian behavior in so many times in the past.
Could have if the vaccine manufacturing is on schedule. US of A has blocked access to key ingredients and the vaccine production as of now is not even running at 100% capacity when ideally it should be run at 150%.

India is trying to make those ingredients at home and it will take 2-3 months to.get them going. It's tough as of now.

High efficacy is good as it stops transmission - the higher that is the more the ability of the vaccine to stop a vaccinated person from infecting others.

So looking at the main ones now with protection against symptomatic infection:

1. Pfizer/Moderna - 90%+
2. Sputnik - 90%+
2. AstraZeneca - 70-80%
3. Sinopharm - 50-60%

Chinese Sinopharm vaccine would only be attractive if there were no other vaccine available, and BD was or likely to be in a desperate situation in the next 1-2 months.
Facts are that after a peak of 6000 cases 2 weeks ago, this has now steadily fallen to around 4000 and this may even fall further still as the BD government seems to have a lid on the virus.

The other issue with Sinopharm vaccine is that one dose is practically useless as revealed by Chile real world data, and so to get that 50-60% efficacy you need to give the 2nd dose as soon as possible(3-4 weeks).

In an ideal world, BD would have much more supply of AstraZeneca as a single dose nearly gives the full protection and this high efficacy level stays for when the 2nd shot is due in 12 weeks. BD still has 3 million doses and so can protect a lot more of the most vulnerable 10-15% of its population before it runs out.

As long as BD can get Sputnik supplies in the millions of doses by late May then getting the Chinese offer of 6 million doses makes little sense as BD is in a pretty good situation in terms of virus containment.

I am glad that BD government does not favour the Chinese offer of Sinopharm because of its relatively low efficacy and seems more interested in the Sputnik vaccine.

We should have done this from the beginning but nah our people can’t keep themselves from sucking Indians off
This was offered way back in 2020. It's not enshrined in some kind of law that BD can't take different vaccines from different countries but short-sighted policy has lead us to this situation.
There would be a shortage in vaccines , how hard is that to predict ?

I think not only Sputnik but all other available vaccines should be sourced. The situation in the country has become worse compared to a few months ago.

Except that there is going to be last decade of Ramazan in which people are gonna shop like crazy to celebrate 3 different days of Eid by buying 3 dfferent suits from 3 different shops/places and that too after a lot of haggling and window shopping. Ofcourse, a different suit needs to be stitched for Eid Namaz and that requires another wholesale shopping and going to your favourite tailor twice. Then comes the day of Eid, when everybody is gonna hug each other 3 times and visit relatives to meet and host other relatives to greet. A lot of sweets, alot of dishes. And ofcourse, showing off new clothes too.

This is exactly how we screwed up last year in Pak during our first wave.

Hoping that it won't happen this year, to us, to BD and every MUslim around the world.

Stay safe people.

Actually cases have fallen from 7,000 a day two weeks ago to 4000 now and so the virus is rapidly retreating right now in BD.

Yes there is always a risk of resurgence but the fundamental point is why would BD even consider the relatively low efficacy Chinese vaccine, when 25 million doses of the Sputnik vaccine have been offered to BD this year and even more next year, with Russia willing to licence its production to BD? Russia seems happy to directly supply millions of doses quickly and then help BD set up production locally for more.

There is no benefit at all from using a low efficacy vaccine at all for a country like BD in its current situation. It would not want a proportion of the population vaccinated with a vaccine that has substantially lower efficacy than the other vaccine.

OK, BD has confirmed that it will both be buying the Sputnik vaccine and also producing it locally. Doses brought and produced should run into the 10s of millions just this year alone.

As far as Chinese vaccine is concerned, BD seems to have changed its mind and will procure it with China giving 600,000 as a gift initially. It probably is not a good idea to get the lowest efficacy vaccine available but at least it seems BD will be giving it out in far less doses than the Russian and UK AstraZeneca vaccines both of which have higher efficacy.
