We need some kind of Islamic legislation that allows people to pay money to the poor instead of sacrificing animals.

Imagine $3b dollars put towards poverty every year - every poor child will be fed, educated and provided healthcare for the whole year rather than a parcel of meat that will last a week.
People who sell animals are poor farmers and possibly a couple of few goats/cows and nurture them the whole year for the event. 3 Billion dollars have exchanged hands and money has moved from the rich to the poor - that means money has moved in the right direction.

Well Mr. Simpleton economist, This 3 billion might have created 6 billion worth of economic activity.
with you simple economic wisdom we should also put legislation to stop fasting and celeberating Eid and give that money to poor.

What about the interest earned on the 3bn?

Which God will that money serve?

If your argument is that the interest is forbidden then spot on - 350 billion dollar economy in Pakistan is where the biggest portion of interest is living. 3 billion amount that exchanged hands this Eid is less than 1% of the total economy of Pakistan. So you are right, Pakistan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, should be working to eliminate the interest-based banking system.

But they gather interest on Zakaat as well.

PM goes the extra mile to interest trap the youth as well.
