    Pakistani political leaders are incredibly corrupt, inept, under qualified, overall terrible human beings, yet between them and the "deep state" they've managed to avoid total civil war in Pakistan. In the past 15 years or so, the forces that have destroyed Libya, Iraq and Syria have tried just as hard in Pakistan yet failed to destroy the nation.

    Iraq was slightly different because Saddam originally started GW1 and the demise of Iraq began at that time, but what followed (particularly his treatment of shia minorities and Kurds, as well as the actions clowns who America replaced him with) is very close with what happened in Syria and Libya.

    In each case you had;
    • An Arab leader who'd been around for a long time
    • A country that was ruled by a small trusted elite
    • Countries with conditions of poltical oppression
    These conditions led to disenfranchisement within parts of the population.
    • Disenfranchisement turned to protest.
    • Protest was met by harsh violence and oppression.
    • Protest turned to rebellion with the help of outside influence.
    In each of these cases, the destruction of the countries could have been avoided if;
    • There was a more inclusive political setup
    • Protest wasn't met with overwhelming force and violence.
    We can argue Saddams situation was different as the WMD excuse was used as an excuse. The internal strife and the sectarian conflict that happened afterwards was engineered much like the violence of partition, I think there are still some valid paralells.

    Pakistan

    Pakistan has faced the same types of situations.

    Karachi faced MQM terrorism and targeted killing as well as PPP/ANP/MQM gang war. It was a city that was like a warzone, yet despite it all security services have managed to secure the city and bring life to it again without creating ethnic based warfare in the city.

    TTP launched full scale war against our state. We lost nearly 100,000 people to this war, yet successfully managed to navigate this war away from ethnic colours. A lot of the people fighting the state were pukthun but so were most of the victims and the men on the front line defending it. PTM has been launched as a last failed attempt to re-ignite this issue and it has been very efficiently exposed in the media for what it is.

    TTP also targetted shias and hazaras in Pakistan to try and give the conflict sectarian colours. Many sunni personalities were attacked too, yet we successfully managed to avoid letting the conflict take sectarian colours.

    During the lawyers long march ANP and PPP attacked MQM in Karachi and visa versa yet the situation was not allowed to escalate into an ethnic conflict.

    During the TLYR protests noora league ordered police to attack protestors but it was controlled and a deal reached before it became a large scale religious riot.

    PTI blocked Islamabad twice, once to topple the PPP government and then to topple the PMLN government, yet in both instance protestors and police came face to face, minor scuffles occured yet the politicians managed to agree a situation that would not result in civil strife.

    Balochistan is another example. With very limited resources the BLA have been defeated, the political system in the province has not been distrupted and now actual development is taking place in Gwadar.

    During all this we know foreign governments have supported different parties to instagate violence and chaos in Pakistan, yet through good intelligence, people friendly security operations and political flexibility, our nation has emerged relatively unscathed.

    Based on this i conclude that even at our worst, our leadership class has managed to do a lot better than a lot of these arab states.

    Well why not? Pakistan doesn't exist outside of this world. There are dozens of countries who's leadership is doing better than ours, but often they have faced different circumstances. I think we have faced the same circusmstances as these countries and come out on top. Tunisia and Eygpt also faced Arab spring, they did not become failed states, maybe we can look at what they did right that Syria did not?

    What's wrong with a bit of discussion for the sake of it?

    That's not what this is about. Also Syria, Libya, Iraq were not failed states 15 years ago. Iraq was damaged by sanctions and war, but the other two countries had very good standard of living.

    Don't you people think credit is due for avoid the pitfalls they fell into? Or would you argue we survived inspite of our leaders rather than because of it?

    Arab leaders from Gulf region, with few exceptions, do care about welfare of their own local population

    Pakistani leaders, both political and military (as military is part of political power in Pakistan) are worst creatures in the universe, of course with few exceptions

    It seems Syrian butcher Asad also got same genes as Pakistani leaders. Yemen and Lybia don't have any leadership currently. Iraqi leaders are Iranian Mulla's puppets, equally corrupt as their Pakistani counterparts.

    Pakistani leadership is better than most Arab countries' leadership.

    Perhaps Saudi Arabia has better leadership than Pakistan does.
