The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Rawalpindi, has arrested 14 persons, including two women, and seized over 190 kilograms of narcotics in joint operations, an ANF spokesman said on Friday.

A total of 36.94 kilograms of heroin, 150.07 kilograms of hashish and three kilograms of opium was recovered from the arrested persons.

Acting on a tip-off regarding smuggling of narcotics, the authorities deputed ANF personnel at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport and main roads in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gilgit and Attock to keep vigil on suspected persons.

The ASF personnel recovered 1.74 kilograms of heroin from a Qatar-bound passenger Hidayat-ur-Rehman, son of Shams-ur-Rehman.

The ANF arrested Zahid Mehmood, son of Jalal-ud-Din, during search of passengers at the Sangjani Toll Plaza, Islamabad, after recovery of 30 kilograms of hashish from his possession. Two passengers — Syed Ishtiaq Ali and Waheed — were arrested during checking at the Motorway bus-stop after recovery of three kilograms of opium and 6.8 kilograms hashish from them.

The ANF officials arrested three persons, including two women — Aslam, Perveen and Salma — during a raid at the same place and recovered 15 kilograms of hashish from their possession. Another woman identified as Noor Fatima was arrested from the Motorway Chowk after recovery of three kilograms of heroin from her possession.

The ANF arrested Janmia Anjoria from GT Road near Burhan Interchange in possession of 2.1 kilograms of heroin. Its personnel also recovered 6.75 kilograms of heroin from Ikramullah Khan. Another accused managed to escape from the scene leaving his car behind from which the ANF personnel recovered 80.80 kilograms of hashish concealed in secret cavities.

Two persons — Ghulam Haider Tanoli and Afzaal Ahmad Abbasi — riding in a Suzuki car (IDT-383) were arrested by the ANF during a raid near Markaz G-9 who were in possession of 7.3 kilograms of heroin.

The spokesman said that the ANF recovered a consignment of 12 kilograms of heroin from the Benazir Bhutto International Airport being sent abroad through cargo.

According to the spokesman, Ghulam Abbas, son of Saleh Muhammad, was arrested from GT Road near Motorway Bus-Stand for carrying 11.2 kilograms of hashish. Muhammad Shaharyar, son of Rafiullah, was arrested from the Benazir Bhutto International Airport when he was proceeding to Bangkok after recovery of 10.78 kilograms of heroin from his baggage.
