The new radar will increase surveillance over Bangladesh’s territorial waters and airspace
A state-of-the-art radar system will be installed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka to detect all types of domestic and foreign aircraft in a bid to keep the country's airspace safe.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU), jointly drafted on October 20 by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and radar manufacturer Thales LAS France SAS, is scheduled for signing on November 3 at the French embassy.

The installation of the radar is expected to take roughly three years.

CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mofidur Rahman, while speaking to Dhaka Tribune, said it would be possible to install the desired radar system in the next two and a half to three years.

A ruling of the International Court of Arbitration has awarded Bangladesh the right to an area of about 19,000 square kilometers in the sea. However, the 37-year-old analog radar currently installed at HSIA, is unable to detect foreign aircraft flying over that airspace, said CAAB authorities.

The new radar will increase surveillance over Bangladesh’s territorial waters and airspace.
It will also allow Bangladesh to collect fines from trespassing aircraft, which are required to pay a minimum of $500 for a single infringement.

Moreover, the new system will be able to detect aircraft that are landing or taking off. Such procedures have to be conducted with an element of risk due to the current radar’s inability to detect such activity.

The agreement will cover the supply, installation and operation of navigation and surveillance systems, including radar and related air traffic management, officials said.

According to the agreement, the data collected through radar must be strictly kept secret by the French company, so that airspace security is not compromised.

You will be delighted to hear sir, Third Terminal work has been ongoing for past few months and it's going to be different and much bigger than current 2 terminals.

Interior potential design at 4:42 onwards....

New airport is also being built in Cox Bazar shaped like pearl and oyster, with runway in the middle of the sea on the beach.

Sylhet is getting new terminal and expansion also reworking the runway....

Chittagong is getting new runway too, but I hope it is demolished and reconstructed from scratch.

Besides 5 domestic airports are getting facelift as well.

I think they will demolish old terminals after construction is complete.

Yes, there was alot of space near the old teo terminals.
there is no place for more runways the real issue is single runway . one single issue and runway and airport closed for many hours its happen dozens of times and its too costly for airlines . its mean next 20 years dahaka will be remain same single runway airport ?. or they are purchasing land from villages nearby and make another runway ?

There is growing consensus among City Planners in Bangladesh that Dhaka has been pushed to its limits, This mainly happened due to the perception that coming to big city like Dhaka means getting job easily and making money withing week of arrival.

It is true, You can make money in Dhaka but Bangladesh has changed alot now from before and there is equal opportunity in most district capital cities, BTW its not just Dhaka but my own city Chittagong has alot of economic migrants from around all parts of south eastern Bangladesh.

The government is increasingly building roads, power plants and other infrastructure to encourage investors and industry leaders to build factories and generate employment opportunities for people all over the country not just in the two big megacities.

They're building 100 economic zones all around Bangladesh, of which very few are nearby big cities like Dhaka and Chittagong.

Step one to save these cities is removing migrants, to do that address their concern, create jobs in home village or towns.

Overtime people will start leaving Dhaka, which is when government will remodel the city after clearing out the empty buildings where migrants stayed.

Now in the meantime, they're building new city Purbanchal 45 minutes outside of Dhaka, This will be the first planned city of Bangladesh.

It will have an airport, I believe far away from the residential areas, a Central Business District consisting of 42 skyscrapers including the Tri-Towers project (52, 71 and 111 floor trio of towers), schools, hospitals, universities and so on....

Work has been ongoing for atleast a decade and construction of CBD area has started in September.

Dhaka will be returned to its rightful residents the Dhakaites in the coming decade or two.

Once pressure on Dhaka drops, it'll look less congested all old infrastructure remodelled and rebuilt.

Here is some info about Tri Towers, Purbanchal New Town.

Here is video of CBD and Current construction works :

and lastly Natural Beauty of Purbanchal

It’s original design was good tbh. Interior is fine for the time period but subsequent refits and changes made it terrible. Wait for terminal 3

I’ve been into the surrounding areas, one side of the runway area is just forest... another side is the Air Force headquarters and the third side points to the airport road

That’s dhanmondi
Nope, just shifting Traffic, There is a second airport in Dhaka, but its old and used by Air Force now.
Planned but postponed

terminal 1 and 2 won’t be demolished but remodeled subsequently

Dhanmondi isn't a city.

Purbanchal is going to be a real city city
