a tribute to the women of pakistan........

    everyone thinks women in pakistan are opressed sure in tribal areas some sad incidents coz of some uneducated talibani type people but that is just a minority that gets all the coverage in most of pakistan women are equal here is some famous women of pakistan here is some strong and influental women of pakistan who have had ro do dave high ranking positions in the government and current others are sucessessful in other fields.This thread is for the women of pakistan and for outsiders who think pakistani women are oppressed well these girls certainly don't look downtrodden to me !

    namira saleem -not just the first pakistani woman but also the first pakistani to go into space and reach both north and south pole !

    hey if u guys have any other famous/powerful/pioneering pakistani women whether they be in business,science,entertainment,sport,political or whatever then plz feel free post them here if you think anymore should be on the list.God bless the women of pakistan and protect them from extremists they will play and integral part in the success of the country :pakistan:

    Bilquis Edhi is a humanitarian and a social worker. She has been working with the Edhi Foundation since the early 60's. Edhi Foundation which was started by Abdual Sattar Edhi with the mission to provide aid to Pakistan's poor and down-trodden has become Pakistan's major relief organization under the leadership of the husband and wife team of Adbul Sattar and Bilquis Edhi. Today, in addition to services provided in Pakistan, Edhi foundation is a major resource for assisting victims of disaster internationally.

    Noor Jehan (born September 21, 1926 – December 23, 2000) was a Pakistani singer and actress. She is renowned as one of the greatest singers of her time in South Asia and was given the honorific title of Mallika-e-Tarranum (Urdu: ملکہ ترنم, English: the queen of melody).

    Ugh..Noor Jehan, the times my dad used to play her songs while we were in the car, or at home, man, he's a huge fan of her.
    Not me, i'm sick of her voice LOL, it's too old-school for me. ;)

    She's a legend and she's famous in both Pakistan and India.
    She started singing and acting even before partition and she sang many patriotic songs for the Pakistani army in the 1965 Indo-Pak war, she was helping Pakistani troops in the war in another way by singing patriotic songs supporting them.

    Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan
    The wife of the First Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan.
    She was the first Muslim woman delegate to the UN in 1952. She was also the first woman ambassador of Pakistan, representing Pakistan in the Netherlands, Italy and Tunisia. From 1973 to 1976, she was elected Governor of Sind, once again the first Pakistani woman to hold such a post.

    In recognition of her life-long struggle for women’s rights, she was awarded the United Nation’sHuman Rights Award in 1978. Her other many awards and medals include the Jane Adam’s Medal in 1950 (USA), Woman of Achievement Medal 1950 (USA), Mother of Pakistan in 1950 (USA), Nishan-I-Imtiaz in 1959, Grand Cross of Orange Nassau in 1961 (the Netherlands), International Gimbel Award 1961-62 , Woman of the World in 1965 chosen by the Turkish Women’s Association, Ankara and Vavaliera di Gran Croce in 1966 (Italy).

    Dr Maleeha Lodhi was the high commissioner of Pakistan to the United Kingdom, and a former ambassador to the United States. She has also been a member of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Disarmament.

    Salima Hashmi is one of the most well-known artists of Pakistan. Besides being an accomplished painter, she taught at Pakistan's prestigious National College of Arts (NCA) for about thirty years and served as the Principle of NCA for four years. In 1999, Salima Hashmi received Pakistan's Pride of Performance award. Today she is the Dean of School of Visual Arts at the newly established Beaconhouse National University in Lahore and she also runs her own art gallery featuring works of young artists.

    Yasmeen Lari is Pakistan’s first woman architect. She's also an advocate for preservation of historical sites.

    Fatima Surayya Bajia, Pride of Performance, is a renowned Urdu novelist, playwright and drama writer of Pakistan. She has been awarded various awards at home and abroad including Japan's highest civil award in recognition of her works. She also remained Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh province of Pakistan.
